when did this happen? I don't think I noticed anything but I'll drink Dutch Gold if it's on offer

It was tweeked when they rebranded the cans around 1 year ago, I preferred the old version.

Yep, it is changed since around then.
I found the old version a bit meh, the newer one I'd have over most other lagers tbh.
Not too hoppy and an easier sup.

Grand sub for D4 heino heads I suppose :P

*I say as a Heineken drinker :pac:

this was still on in my tesco last night, it was a quota of 4 per customer, and rockshore and carslberg were also in the mix n match offer, so could only risk 1 guinness is you were wary.

I really hope these people I saw claiming they are pouring their guinness away are just bullshitters, give it to somebody else. I usually drink my guinness straight from the can! just as I do with most beers.
    guinness straight from the can?

My final verdict on the 470ml cans after several of them.

It’s not perfect but seriously people have lost the plot if they think it’s massively different.

This is the best offer I’ve seen in a long long time.

If you like your Guinness stock up for the love of god.

thats a great price for 500ml slabs.

Aldi have 18 hop house for €24 all year, I pick up a slab every 2 weeks with the shopping.. it's rarely anywhere else in a slab, I picked up a box of 20 bottles from Tesco a few weeks ago for €15. Don't know if they still have them at that price.
Are Lidl the only ones doing the 2 for 33e offer?
They have 18 hop house cans for 25e as well although it wasn't advertised anywhere.
Is anywhere else doing the hip house cans on sale? Anyone spot them?

I think they are warehouse stock Tesco had kept back and now offloading, I also spotted plastic wrapped Heineken today with a marginally shorter BB date than the cardboard boxes they are using the last few months. Guinness apparently not manufacturing any 500ml 24 packs until the new year.

Is the Lidl 2 slabs for €33 finished now?

Was it just Carlsberg and Guinness?

The sign in Dunnes alcohol quarter ( right next to the 20e slabs) said 'customer quota may apply' - took 5 slabs of same brand for 75e ( used 25_off_100 voucher )

The Merrion Centre Dublin 4 had the 500ml version for €20 today. One less now - not too many left, and judging by the size of the pile, not many to start with.

    Was in Tesco

    Hennessey 700ml €30
    Bailey's 700ml €13
    Guinness 24*500ml €20

Seems they put up the first 2 from Friday.

    Got em.

Picked them up in Cashel, Tipperary.

About 12 or so on the shelves.

500ml cans, used a 10er off €50 voucher so got a cracking deal.

    All can slabs €20 BTW.

Tonnes of 500ml Guinness for €20 in Clarehall Dublin tonight so I'd say the larger Tesco stores will have stock now

My holdout against the 470ml and their crappy widgets paid dividends with a new 5 off 25 voucher bagging two for €35

The bailey was 10 and smirnoff was 20 on sunday. I was wondering if they would jack them up today. My voucher did not become valid until today, while all the previous ones started on a sunday.

I wonder if the 2 guinness for 35 has also stopped.

Yes, I drink most beer from the can. I am particular enough about the head on the guinness, A 500ml can ends up with a massive crappy head in a pint glass, I enjoy it more from a can rather than poured like that. If you stick a half inch in the glass first it solves it but is hassle. If people have 470ml cans they are not happy with they should try it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

30 470ml slabs and 3 500ml on floor in front of them. The untrained eye wouldn't know the difference. I suspect the core Guinness drinker will spot the right one.
Noticed individual cans are 24 for 20 euro.
Offer of 2 for 35 gone.
Nice to hear the rattle from the slab.

I did buy a 470ml last week, it isn't bad but lacks the heavy head. Grand for cheap price.

Was it a shortage of widgets or a shortage of Guinness. Since March, James Gate stopped brewing except to keep the yeast culture true. They are now back in production.

I cannot believe it was shortage of widgets. It takes a lot of research to produce Guinness Lite, and I'd imagine it takes a lot of research to take the widget out. Probably as much, if not more, to put it in.

So, yes, that wonderous Diageo Marketing Dept that brought us Guinness Lite. Another brewing high point.

I'll miss the 470ml cans, they exposed taste buds that people never knew existed. Hopefully Guinness will sell a 499ml can with widget just to exercise some minds again.
