What do Gardai detectives do?

    Are Gardai detectives different from the normal officers in uniform? Do they do welfare checks?

    Basically, a friend was drunk and got caught with a joint in his ear. Detective took down his number and went down the good cop routine with him saying your not in trouble whatsoever but will need you to answer a few questions, but I'll give ya a call for a quick chat tomorrow whichever car park you want to meet up in. I'll get ya a takeaway coffee as well.
