It's the one I got with my launch PS5 so well out of warranty. Will try the wall charger and see how that goes.

Giving my OG PS5 to the girlfriends boys, aged 6 & 10 (I'm using ps5 pro now). Any recommendations for games that age group? They love Sonic and WWE, and I was thinking Minecraft and Spyro. Maybe fifa

    Astro bot? Ratchet & Clank?

    Minecraft for sure.

When my son was that age we played party crashers all the time. He would laugh so much he'd go off the track after shunting me off or blowing me off the track with a rocket. It might not look like much but its really fun to play. We still play it sometimes.

Think I got it on sale for a few euro.

Edit: Minecraft dungeons was popular co-op for my son and his pals around that time also

Get them Gran Turismo 7 and show them how to do the Jim Burnley Lunge.

Something I experienced from racing against Jim in GT7 multiplayer.

When they're older. Don't want to put them off driving for life

So, from PS5 base + same TV ... Pro, Yes or No ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

Honestly I'm not sure there's a massive difference. I was pretty happy with the base in the first place. The pro is really good, quiet, quick and smooth. But the base was on the whole too. Lucky enough to be able to afford the upgrade and had in back of my head of giving the OG to the young lads. I think you'd only notice any significant difference if playing them side by side tbh.

Ok, thanks for that. There are sales on it and the disk drive at the moment. I've already played the first party Sony games that have been improved for Pro, so maybe I'll replay them again on PS5+x one day.

Definitely astro bot. My nephews are around the same age and they love it.

Phone charger didn't work for the controller but looks like I got it working and charging now. While connected to the PS5 and the console powered on, I turned the controller off via the controller menu, then it started charging. I turned it on again and it kept charging. Fully charged now.

Most kids that age will play FiFA, COD, Fortnite and Minecraft.

Yeah I agree with Jim on this - unless you have a need for a second PS5 in the house or your current one is giving you trouble (or you found 800 quid down the back of the couch! 😁) - I'd probably hold off for the time being. It's a great machine alright but that 50 quid off isn't a huge amount tbh, save the dosh for another day. 🙂

Jesus the PS Store has become absolutely littered again with bullsh*t low-effort monstrosities. Heaps of games just featuring a shark with legs or a piece of wood with a face.

    image.png

"Brainrot Tung Tung Sahur", "Escape Tung Sahur Backrooms", "Tralalero Tralala Simulator", "Supermarket Anime Collector's Simulator"

They really need to do a better job at curating these and splitting them off into their own separate category or something. Even if the category of "PS5 Games" includes just all games that have been released, these shouldn't f*cking qualify.

Nintendo is the same with their "Seal of Quantity" as ign calls it. They're always near the front thanks to releasing the same games with different names and asset flips, then rotating some of them to be on sale.

Just looked up that Death Park 4k remaster and the 100% walkthrough for it is about 25 mins.

Decent State of Play tonight. Looking forward to Silent Hill f, I think the initial trailer was better in terms of being creepier but curious to see the direction it goes. Romeo is a Dead man also seems like one to watch.

Also interested in the new 007, Pragmata, Everybody's Golf and Lumines Arise. Lumines was one of my favourite PSP games, surprised it isn't more popular!

So I changed my PS5 to a slim, anyone else get one? Mine is noisy when playing games, you can hear the fan. Like a little desk fan in the corner. My old fat PS5 is silent. Kinda disappointed.

Yeah a friend of my sons brought a slim over recently and apart from the smaller size I wasnt impressed. As you say its noisy.

Also had 2 TVs set up for them and the slim wouldn't recognize 1 of the TVs. There was a slight buzzing noise (from the tv) and the resolution information would appear then disappear. This was on loop about every 5 seconds. Powered everything off, swapped cable ends, tried safe mode, different cable that was working with my son's fat PS5, connected to the other TV and reduced the resolution then reconnect back. At that stage it was just annoying me so I spent a bit of time trying to resolve. No joy. Fat PS5 had no issue with either tv / cable. Odd.

It's very noticeable at night, when I can't have the sound up. I plugged back in the fat PS5 and it's a lot quieter. Kinda upset. Wasted €500.

Out of curiosity why change to a slim if you already have a PS5?

Was the plan to sell the fat PS5 or did you want 2 consoles? Just really wanted the slim?

I saw it on sale and thought "sure I'll upgrade" as I've the fat since launch and it was loud spinning discs but sure turns out, that's normal! I thought it was a dodgy disc drive, no PS5's are just loud with discs in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,232 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I had the fat/original one and it had a loud fan and very annoying coil whine. After a while I sold that to CEX for a decent enough price (not much off the original cost). I got the slim later on and much quieter. Can still hear the fan but it's not distracting and no persistent coil whine.

It's a lottery with PS5 hardware. All models. Also, some people are more tolerant of noise than others. Also, some people are just glad it's not as noisy previous PS4 models.

The blue ray drive is noisy when checking for presence of a disk in the drive and when installing off the drive. After that it's fine. Perfectly fine for watching a blue ray movie. But probably too noisy for hi fi afficianidos.

Bought a slim last year and the fan noise was appalling. There are threads on Reddit about it. Apparently there are three different fan manufacturers and even though they are meant to make them to Sony's exact specifications, they have varying sound levels. It seems to be random as to what fan is used during PS5 manufacture.

Ended up buying a replacement fan from Ali Express and that solved it. The fan switch takes seconds.

I've the first death stranding and never got around to playing it. Probably worth a playthrough before I even think about the sequel.

Only criticism about DS2 so far is there not being an easier weapon changing system. Going into the clunky weapon wheel every time to change from Blood Grenade to Assault Rifle is annoying. Should be able to add 3 to the loadout cycle through them with one button press.
