The actor Mick Lally had a very nice speaking voice. Clear, unpretentious and unmistakably west of Ireland.

Fair point, J. If we have to go outside the Pale I suppose we could give “honourable” mentions to Michael Harding, Eddie Lenihan and Mícheál Ó’Muircheartaigh.

It’s quite trendy around here to hate everything to do with RTE and Tubridy in particular, but he does have a nice speaking voice.

Not at all. In fact I'm surprised to hear so many voices from down the country represented in this thread.

Paul McGrath has a lovely speaking voice.

    Such a lovely guy too.

Colin Farrell although he definitely hams it up. Still a really sexy voice though.

Noel Purcell, lovely Dublin accent without the nasal twang so beloved of the scangers.

Speaking of Dublin accents. Shane Ross. hahahahahaha FFS. get a grip, Nick.

    John Creedon
    Derek Davis

When you think about it, there are quite a few to choose from, and I like most Irish accents, apart from the D4 type accent which is now heard all along the DORT line, and even outside Dublin.

I doubt you would say that if his name ended with an "o" and he grew up north of the Liffey. Reverse snobbery is just as bad as regular snobbery.

Indeed, I actually think this has EVERYTHING to do with how 'nice' an accent is, you could literally put any accent on Paul - and because the inside of his brain is so wholesome, his 'accent' would sound 'nice'. In other words, 'nice' 'accents' are absolute nonsense, it is ALL about whose head the voice is coming out of, in my very honest opinion.

    John Giles.

Jonathan Ryan, maybe not that famous but nearly everyone here would recognise that voice from radio/television ads.

And he's great with the kids on the 'Late Late Toy Show Christmas Special'.

I sincerely hope he's adequately remunerated for his trouble.

I completely disagree, his accent is so affected and faux American chat show host I can't stand it.

You can call it trendy (in an attempt to dismiss that hate) but there's plenty of valid substance behind RTE and Tubridy hate. However even if I was an RTE fan though I would still find that accent and smarmy forced demeanour and voice grating.

Can't think of another voice that could trump the Paul McGrath mention so far to be honest.

I like Chris O'Dowd's voice a lot as well but probably because I find him funny and affable and his accent is a nice soft country accent.

Sgt Healy in young offenders, Dominic MacHale. We did a taste tour of the docklands in 2017 and he was the guide. Some craic and he's a really sound lad. He has a nice normal suburban Cork accent.

Actually Laura Healy and Tadhg Hickey in that video have nice Cork accents as well.

He’s very good in the tv version of ‘Get Shorty’, well worth watching.
