Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why do so many people think it would be meaningless. It would be only chance for many counties to win something. you are still playing for the cups/competitions with their hundred plus years of history etc etc.
There could be additional rewards put in place for winners.

What additional rewards? Provincials can be kept but they shouldn't be a part of the AIC anymore. Even the GAA can see the current format is not working anymore.

SO you want to add in extra games now? I thought it was all about player welfare and club games that we are changing the competitions?

Keep the Provincials as an early in the year competition. Get them far and away from the AI.
Why push them away to early in the year?
Get rid of the pre season competitions altogether especially when counties are playing games on top of these competitions anyway. Just have friendlies in pre season. You can have 4 provinces competitions later in year. That isnt extra games.

The only way the Sam Maguire is going to some counties is if its on a national tour. I'm all on for the tiered championships, it has worked for the hurling maybe not so much for the supporter factor

Nothing wrong with a second tier but none of the proposed formats are good. Clubs separate their championships and have promotion/relegation between them. Clubs don't lose in Senior and then get one more game at Junior level.

That's true, but the main reason there's a provision in the new proposals for what would be the equivalent of a team getting a crack at junior after they lose in senior, is that everybody at inter-county football level expects a crack at "senior" anyway.

My proposal would be simple - 16 teams in Tier 1 and 16 in Tier 2, with either one or two teams promoted/relegated each year, depending on if you want to promote both Tier 2 finalists or just the Tier 2 winners.

Relegation from Tier 1 would be decided by playoffs between the losing first round counties, or the bottom four counties in each group if something like four groups of four was used.

Basically the rough equivalent of how senior & intermediate works at club level.

You could have double-elimination as well which would give every team 2 games. The 4 losers in Round 2B go into the relegation play-offs. Or you could you use the League to decide the placings. I liked how competitive Divs 2 and 3 were this year.

The lower tier hurling championships don't attract big attendances, when fans are allowed attend

The 3 lower hurling competitions are between football Counties where there was never much public support for hurling.
    Offaly excepted of course.

Very true. The likes of the Nicky Rackard and Lory Meagher Cups attract as close to SFA as possible, in terms of attendance.

But it's not that the people in those counties decide not to attend "because it's only the Nicky Rackard Cup" (for example). It's just that there's never been much support in those counties for hurling at all. And that's a whole other issue.
