3 dead - Gardai ERU flown in from Dublin by the army according to reports.
    https://twitter.com/mickthehack/status/1320750935296135170?s=20

    https://twitter.com/RCarrollTV/status/1320752168421437440?s=20

Mod note - This is a tragic event and details will not become clear for a number of days. Can we all exercise a bit of cop on and avoid unnecessary speculation and rumors, particularly from anyone who may or may not have 'local knowledge'. Thanks

Second Mod note - OK I see we're getting clever about speculation
It's now being dressed up as "I read in the papers..." with no link provided, or "I'm not speculating but..." then a very oddly specific hypothetical example is given. Let me be clear - any more speculating and this thread will be closed

    Awful situation.

Such a horrible loss of life.

All over a will and a farm.

    The mind boggles.

Could be anything, not necessarily a will and land.

But it was over the will

Such an awful tradegy. Poor wife/mother having to witness all this.

Very bleak news. Hard to believe a will alone could drive such a horrific situation.

Thank be to Jesus these are rare and we don't have a gun fetish like one country in particular.
The stricter our gun laws, the better.

I'd imagine there will be a call for more stringent gun controls after this ,not that it would make any kind of difference here

I’ve seen people flip before over land.

Nonsense. Our gun laws are amongst the strictest in the world.

Very easy to obtain a firearm in this country illegally. Adding additional rules won't protect anyone.

The report in the IT states that Gardai were aware that there were three licensed guns on the premises.

Anyway it's a total tragedy and that's the truth.

Don't think we can make our gun laws any stricter.

    Rip to those who died.

Yeah terrible news, Town is in shock here.
ERU were flown in by The Air Corp as situation was fluid at the time. Also Search and rescue helicopter arrived with emergency doctors and equipment.
Supposedly over a will. Not sure who the instigator of the shooting was just yet

Id say there is a bit more to it. 2 lads in their 20s shouldnt really be losing the run of themselves over their 50 year old fathers wishes after he dies. With the mother still alive as well. Who knows, horrible tragedy either way.

Speculation is futile. I'd say many from that neck of the woods have an idea what this was all about anyway.

The poor mother/wife (as I think she is). God love her.

Awful tragic news and so unnecessary no matter the argument. The poor mother I can’t even imagine what she’s going through probably getting grilled by gardai

I'd say they would be a bit more sensitive than that for a few days anyway. Offering support more like.

I think the Gardai are more professional than you gave them credit for.

I have no doubt that the Gardai have protocol in such incidents and defer the difficult issues until the witness etc. is in a position to co-operate. God love that poor woman. May they all RIP.

Must be traumatic for the local community also. Horrible thing to happen.

    Awful tragedy.

I'm from a farming background and unfortunately in my locality I'd know of 3 or 4 situations where similar is bubbling under the surface. It takes very little to ignite.

I don't know, this desire for land seems to go back to penal times, the tithe war of the 1830s, the great famine, land war and so on.

Seems the Dad was 59 and the mother in her 60s and in ill health recently. With the pandemic, many people in the upper age groups are sorting out Wills. But I have no idea if this was the case in this awfully sad event. RIP and heaven help the poor mother.

I’m not speculating, grew up a few miles away . But let the facts come out to the wider public first .

I have 2 sons, who are still babies but couldn't imagine this happening to us. A lot of my family are farmers and I've seen so many families torn apart by land and not speaking for years. This really is so desperately sad

Do we know that for sure.

After incidents like this people love to give a reason.
