    Hi all.

Hopefully can help me with this one, looking at buying a 2023 model 3 performance and all looks good bar I noticed the tyres on the car are not the Pirelli p0s, they are NEXEN Nfera sport 235 35Z R20. Seem to be the same dimensions as the Pirelli, just not sure whether it would have an effect on range/efficiency or if they’re even suitable?

If not, would have to factor in the cost of getting the Pirelli’s on the car too.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not surif this answers your question exactly but I'd imagine they replaced the Pirellis with Nexens to save money. They seem to be a lot cheaper.

They don't have a great fuel efficiency rating so I'd expect lower range, but I'd say the best thing to do would be to just drive on those tyres til they're done and get a better set later. It'd be a false economy to just bin them and spend a load of money to save a little.

Finally. My 2023 M3P came with Pirellis but I have Michelin's on there now. No need to stick to the original spec.

Compare EU rating for rolling resistance to see how it affects range and then I recommend to compare noise rating as well, it affects comfort in EVs quite a bit.

How many kms are on the car? I suppose they knew they were going to sell it on, but it needed new tyres so stuck on the cheapest set of new tyres in the hope that they find a sucker.

Mention it in your haggling, that you'll have to knock off the cost of getting the Nexens replaced with a proper tyre. The last thing you want is the power of an M3P going through anything but the best rubber out there.

id be more worried about grip and safety than efficiency.

    This ^

Your driving style/behaviour is going to be a significantly much larger factor on efficiency/range over choice of tyre.

I would agree in that I would be more concerned with the performance/handling of that tyre. Whilst the factory-fitted Pirelli P Zero tyres prioritize grip and handling.

Just tipping around you'll be grand, but the M3P wasnt built for that!

around 50000. The two back tyres when I seen it first definitely needed replacing, but the two front ones looked okay enough, they were the original p zeros I think. All 4 got replaced with these ones though. Car looks in great condition otherwise, so I’m in two minds. Have read a lot about the tyres on the performance needing to be the right ones so worried about these ones.

Thanks everyone for all the responses, really appreciate it.

I found the M3P utter crap on the Pirellis. Swapped to Michelins PS as soon as i could!

Pirellis are great initially but the grip drops off extremely quickly. Michelin are lightyears ahead when it comes to performance degradation as thread depth decreases.

Trying to figure out if there's something wrong with the steering wheel heating or is it just crap in the Highland.

In my previous model 3 the steering wheel heating was excellent, turn it on and it was lovely and warm within seconds. In the highland when i turn it on full power after about 5 minutes i genuinely still cant tell whether it is on or not and after about 10 min i feel a very very low level of heat. is it time for a service request or is this normal in the highland?

I had a pre HL and a HL model 3, there is no difference in heat so deffo a service request as mine is toasty

Guys getting a new windscreen fitted next week. I seen something on thread regards camera calibration after it’s fitted.

Is that something the installer looks after ?

Model 3 Highland tested by NCAP recently.
Above all else, it’s one of the safest cars to be in currently.

That's interesting as I know tesla vision has seen some major updates lately but it's still nowhere near as good as a car with ultrasonics. Also interesting to see the MG5 make the top 10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,582 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Do you mean the ultrasonics that have a 0.5m range? 😃

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 theevguy

The standard range with no extras being 37k at the minute really is a cracker of a deal. Especially on 1% finance.

Really is a great car for that kind of money.

Hi all, thought this may be a good place to ask. Looking at this 3 and wondered if anyone here knows anything about its history? It would be my first electric coming from an old Audi TT so the extra BHP is a big attraction. Pros / Cons etc.? Anything I should be looking out for or are there any companies I should use to check it over?

Get the rear bumper reflector sorted and make sure there’s no crash damage that caused to to fall out in first place.

Check the rear lights to make sure they are not forming pools of water.

    Check front suspension for squeeking.

Easy fixes but no harm checking.

After that, general car stuff. Condition, if there’s any history, etc

After recently seeing @ELM327's written off Model 3 showing up for sale at an independant garage with nothing being highlighted on motorcheck/cartell, turns me off buying from independant garages.

At least buying from NI gives you good degree of certainty that insurance claims were accurately reported and are highlighted during reg checks.

What category was it written off as? To my knowledge only cat A and B in Ireland need to recorded.

And there is nothing unlawful in reselling a cat C, D etc.

Although as I understand it should be disclosed by the seller once known. But open for correction on that part.

I was looking at a second hand yoke earlier this year and it was a category C write off but didn't show up on any of the standard motor checks or on the ones the dealers use themselves. Seller disclosed it but only after I had asked.

Wasn't risking it as it could be reported at a later date by the insurance company and if regulations change may show up on a register in due course.

has anyone got a recommendation for

    a) a decent protector that goes on the back of the front seat with pockets etc for the kids to store stuff and

    b) a tablet holder that works with the tesla seat design (highland or juniper)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭Paul MCM

for a) I picked up a decent one in Lidi a few months back.

Over the front headrests and then it has straps you can attached to the bottom of the driver/passenger seats that keeps it in place.

Just order them online from whichever of Openeo, Tyreleader or EireTyres has your particular size/spec of tyre the cheapest…

I had 2 tyres delivered yesterday for my own car from Tyreleader, but the 18" PS4's..

I'll be getting my alignment done probably next week (after most likely another new set of upper control arms first this week), and then I'll have my local tyre place swap out the 2 tyres for me..
