Great to get that perspective from someone familiar with both

There have been a couple of high mileage 2019 model 3's that have gone for 20-23k. Their prices will surely fall further when the new Highland models reach the Irish customers.

I agree, I think that the new Highland models headlights and bumper make the car look "sleeker".

There should be a good few company cars starting to roll off 3 & 4 year leases over the next 12 months also, although these are generally sold direct to trade, so the dealers will be adding their margins.

Wheel has been kerbed. It wasn't me. 🤬 I'm not impressed.

I took it to a place to fix but they said they wouldn't as it's not worth their while. Anyone done it themselves? or suggestions for someone to fix without taking the whole wheel

Seen a lot of M3 wheels badly kerbed. Was talking to a dealer who said a lot of their M3s need the wheels refurbed at €800 a set

I got 2 done recently from DB Autobody. They are at the back of United Tyres on Lower Walkinstown Avenue. €60 a wheel as they just needed local repair and painting and blending.

Usually a full refurb is about €400 from Wheel Wizards in Finglas depending on the wheel size. I’m generally getting 20”, 21” done so the 18” may be a bit cheaper.

€800 is excessive and I suspect there’s a lot of profit in it for the person telling you that.

HiTec Wheel finishes in Rosemount in Dublin 15 are €115 per wheel. And they are excellent. They done my 21” wheels last year and they actually travel out to main dealers to collect stock for repairs. If it’s €115 to me as I turn up at the door, I’d suspect a main dealer to get a bulk discount.

Wheel Wizards in Finglas are circa €400 and they are just as good. The only thing that would make me pick one over the other was availability to take the car etc

It's just people not taking care when driving.

How long did that take with DB?

It was Wheel Wizards that told me no. Said I'd need to bring the wheel, otherwise they'd only take the car itself if all 4 were being done. It's not possible or practical for me to go taking off the wheel and bringing it somewhere.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,535 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I gave DB the 2 wheels. I have access to other cars so wasn’t an issue for me. Left it in the Tuesday and they were ready Friday. He didn’t start them until the Wednesday so possibly 2 day turn around.

No experience getting Tesla wheels done but I used Rim Solutions in Clondalkin for 19" diamond cut Mercedes AMG alloys that were in very poor condition and they came out looking amazing with an almost mirror finish with the clear lacquer over the machining. They also loaned me some wheels but the car was parked and not in use so only needed something for it to sit on while the work was being done. I did have to drop and collect all five as had the spare done also.

If ye think your wheels are bad then zoom in on these. The front was even worse with massive lumps of paint missing.

Was a Tesla Model 3 we parked beside recently.

Rim Solutions would be there with the best too. I only mention the other 2 as I’m a Northside 😂

+1 for rim solutions and their diamond cut machine for a 19” wheel 👌

Hello. We purchased Model 3 LR single motor (white/black interior) from inventory at v good price and 0% finance and got delivery 2 weeks ago. Have driven almost 2,000 kms already and v happy and impressed with car. We had ordered a higher spec with extras but likely delivery in 2024 (even if new Highland upgrade) was a problem, and this car from inventory was a lot less expensive, esp. with 0% finance. Mostly charge at home and estimated energy costs are one third of comparative diesel car doing 50mpg. Still a bit confused about real range figure, but learning as we go.

I have no comparison to other models. Range is critical issue for us, and TM3 LR RWD looks like best value in an EV if you need range. It is ridiculously fast accelerating.

    Well wear!

You mentioned you’re still confused about the real world range, but presumably you have a decent guide on it for city/country/motorway?

    id have thought 400+ anyway

The range figure given on screen is the EPA range, for this to be achieved the conditions would need to be warm, dry and a mix of driving speeds. I get the EPA range from May to Sept in the RWD M3 no problem so I'd imagine you should too.

The range will decrease due to cold weather, higher speeds, multiple short trips, wet roads, windy conditions, heavy load or a combination of any of those main factors

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

Hello. Thanks for comments. So what is expected range for this time of year with current weather. Below is my data for last few days, and i am assuming I calculated 'Theoretical max if 100% charged' correctly; (driven in some very wet and windy weather, mix of motorway, national and local roads).

    image.png

So, we could drive 550 km from 100% to 0% if needed?

And hopefully in the summer, this will be near to 620 km?

Does it make any difference to park car in garage in colder weather?

    Thanks.

Be more efficient to pre heat the battery before driving from the mains.

@Gumbo how do you kick this off ? Is it just heating the car ? I often leave from work with a fully charged car that is still plugged in ?

I see there are some good deals on inventory Model Y's that I am considering.

My question is what would a fair price for a private sale on a grey 211 Model 3 SR+ with 35000km on the clock?

    Cheers

Set the departure time and the car will start pre heating the cabin while plugged in so in theory it doesn’t pull from the HV battery when driving to heat the cabin. It delays the charging also to keep the battery warm for departure time too.

Your figures are based on what the car said each morning at 90% charge I’m guessing?

In reality I’ve never seen 550 personally (in a normal LR), but it would be possible with only urban hypermiling in mild weather for sure.

if you get above 450 in winter mixed driving you’d be doing well. I do mostly motorway, so 350/375k on winter motorway driving is about right for the LR

I have been looking at the best way to finance my M3 LR order and I'm a bit confused by the PCP finance that's offered by Tesla.

In all my previous PCP agreements with VW, the interest was only charged on the amount I financed over the 3 years, excluding the optional final payment. When I look at the below I can't make out how they are calculating the repayment amount.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

From a quick look at the payments/interest it looks to me like the loan interest is calculated on the total (after deposit) of €34,321. After 3 years the balance of the loan, having made payments of €610, will be €17789.

At that point you clear the loan, or go again.

It is definitely not as you describe with the VW loan where you only paid interest on the amount financed over the 3 years assuming you mean....Car 50k, deposit 15k, GFMV 20k....Interest paid on the 15k loan (Cost of car minus the deposit and GFMV)

    EDIT

The pic sort of shows what I mean....look at the number left after 3 years

Thanks Conar, that's what I was thinking too, but that makes no sense to me, they are charging me interest on an amount of money I am not borrowing from them. If they are going to charge me interest on the full amount minus my deposit I may as well just get a car loan for the full amount all together.

You gotta understand that PCP is just HP with a wrapper.

The final ‘balloon’ payment is technically just the last of the 36 payments, you ARE getting a loan for the full amount.

think of it more like HP over 36 payments but the last payment is huge, making all others a lot less.

edit; and because most of the finance is at the end it means interest paid is more than if the payment were spread evenly like HP over the same period.

So long as you understand how it really works then you can decide what best suits you.

You are just being charged interest on the amount financed (34321) over the 36 month term (35 really as 1st month is paid in advance) and then loan will be repaid down to a level of 17789. The figures you quote seem accurate. You can use this calculator to play with and it gives similar results to what you have been quoted. The calculator also shows what amount the loan reduces by over every month for each of the 36 months. This is a standard approach and would have been the same for VW.
