Yep. And if they calculate incorrectly and charge too much you get a refund. And if they don't charge enough they just cover it themselves anyway.

For Amazon US, all customs fees are charged upfront. You can't avoid them. They show as Import Fees Deposit at the checkout

I primarily buy US Blu Rays from there. Stuff that doesn't get a European release.

Just a further update on this.

Today I received a second refund for the same amount.

This time it's from the seller..

It says the first one was a goodwill gesture from Amazon.

    So an extra €44.

Has anybody in Cork problems with delivery yesterday?

My 3 parcels came as usual into the final depot around 0400 in the morning and then nothing until late in the afternoon when they went into "Delay in delivery due to external factors", then "Package delayed in transit" and at 21:29 back into "Package arrived at the final delivery station".

Now it shows as "Now expected by 28 May" and usually by now (10:37) it's out for delivery, so this worries me.

Just wondering if anybody else had similar issue yesterday/today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

    The email says.

If you want us to leave the package unattended, please provide delivery
instructions for the driver. To do that, visit the Track Package page
and go to the "Delivery by Amazon" section:

But, when you go there that section just shows the tracking updates.

Does this have to be done at order time?

Why give it in an Out for Delivery email and then not give you the option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,087 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

No you can always update it for a particular address. Click on Your Account then Your Address and its the link under the address.

    Thanks for that.

I wonder why Amazon can't get their email instructions correct. I mean really.

Now my only problem is that I wanted to say 'Leave in Brown Bin'. But that's not an option. Only leave behind wheely bin.

I don't use that bin by the way.

Well just left propped up at front door.

Is this par for the course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,463 ✭✭✭✭blade1

    That's doing well.

A few months ago when I was missing a parcel and the tracking said it was delivered.

I rang the courier and they asked me did I check inside all the neighbours walls.

Just be glad you have it, it could be worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

Then the email asking how was your delivery.

Click, not so great, but then just taken to the order page, and no ability to give feedback.

I could joke that it's like the Public Sector, but the thing is that a lot of public services are quite good these days.

I've mentioned this elsewhere before, but in 2008/2009 I worked for Amazon customer service. The worst story I had was somebody ringing about the order they placed for a big TV. I checked the tracking and it said left behind side gate. The person told me that their side gate is in a wall, the wall was like 8ft, the gate was closed and the TV was thrown over the wall. That was a fun conversation.

Amazon should make a TV series.

They'll ignore them though. They do for ALL of my deliveries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,087 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

It might be that the delivery instructions are for Amazons own drivers? I don't think my postman who delivers most of my Amazon stuff ever has any instructions, not that I have any set up anyway so can't be sure.

Now in the UK where I used to send Amazon stuff to my mother the Amazon drivers definitely follow the delivery instructions.

Mine was delivery by Amazon, or else I wouldn't have bothered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,139 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

All my deliveries are by Amazon drivers except by subscribe and save which come by an post and are never a problem. The Amazon drivers launch the package at the door, ring the bell and run. My delivery instructions say that if there's no answer, deliver to neighbour x , 1m away. But they never wait to see if there's an answer.

The postman does the same for me. At least some of the Amazon drivers wait for you to answer the door.

Ordered an item from Amazon UK last week that has a defective disc.

Return & replacement processed - shipping label is An Post drop-off with no charge.

I ordered an item on Amazon recently. The status of the tracking says "Delivered to freight forwarder".

Is a freight forwarder a courier?

  • Freight forwarder will consolidate packages all going to the same country / region, then hand them over to a courier in the destination country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,032 ✭✭✭gipi

I saw this on a recent order and contacted the seller. They told me that the package didn't have door to door tracking, so Amazon's information stops once the package reaches the freight forwarder.

The package was delivered to me (via An Post) about a week after the "delivered " date on Amazon.

    Hi,

I purchased an item on Amazon which I cancelled within an hour of placing the order.

However, the purchase is still listed under my "Pending" transactions.

Will I still be charged for the item?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,401 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

They'll try to cancel it when that happens. Usually it will get cancelled, but if it does get dispatched you will get charged. If that happens, do your best to refuse delivery when it is delivered, a refused delivery will return to sender for an automatic refund.

Thanks so much for the reply. Got sorted and got my refund so happy days 😊.

When did Amazon.co.uk change from free delivery on orders over £25 to £35?

Lost count of the number of times Amazon have said something has been lost in transit and refunded, always hoped the item might turn up but it never has.

When Amazon say "We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date." Do they ever send the product?

I got on to them before about a 3 bottle set of AutoGlym and got it sorted but it was a faff. I couldn't really be arsed doing the same for 2 pairs of work gloves. However I would cancel them if theres no chance of them being shipped...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,401 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Strange one, I have an order with amazon due to be delivered tomorrow. The email I got with confirmation says I'll get a one time password to give the delivery driver tomorrow. I've never had this before, it's being dispatched by amazon themselves.

Is this a new thing? Bit of a pain, I'm not 100% certain I'll be there to get it when they deliver...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,227 ✭✭✭jj880

Ballbags. I got onto support a week ago and they said they submitted some kind of ticket and my order would be shipped within 48 hours. No dispatch yet. Amazon have gone downhill big time. Why they just cant say items are not in stock instead of this BS is a mystery to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,227 ✭✭✭jj880

I got it about 9 months ago on a £180 order. A numeric code for the Amazon van driver. They didn't even ask for it in the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

Getting low paid drivers to follow systems is beyond Amazon. At least for now. The systems make for better customer service. And if you're unhappy, where is the alternative company competing on service.

At this stage it's too big a monopoly for the regulators to dare go near.

This order was received to delivery depot on Friday morning, but never went out for delivery. Got a note yesterday evening to say it was late, expected by Monday and to contact them Tuesday for a refund if still not delivered.

Early this morning it was again marked as received into delivery depot and nothing since.

My fear is this is just going to loop until Monday, which is a pain as I won't be there to collect it next week.

Jess Kelly on Newstalk has just said that Amazon Germany no longer deliver outside Germany.

Any idea if this is true?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,231 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

And what source did Jess Kelly from Newstalk provide?

If you go onto amazon.de you can see that they still deliver so unless Jess has an insight she does not share, this looks like "fake news".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,103 ✭✭✭amacca

I suspect if one were to analyse what the likes of weckler, weston, Jess Kelly and all the other radio spacefiller persons say one would find a fair percentage of guff or broadly accepted but not necessarily entirely accurate pronouncements

It worries me that people might take them as being 100% accurate tbh

But I doubt I'd be any better if part of my job was to talk on demand on various radio stations and not let it go silent for a millisecond....must be a terrible job...you can't really go into the minutiae or people would tune out so you have to make relatively safe bland pronouncements as if they are some sort of expert tip or trick or interesting....that presumably anybody current or with a brain already knows and if they don't whatever little tidbit it is probably won't help much in isolation.....some of them drop some fairly terrible inaccurate shite occasionally too.

Amazon.de have always had sellers that don't ship to Ireland or outside of Germany afaik.....and again afaik there's no blanket policy on amazon.de not yo ship to another EU market ...

I've noticed it tends to be bulkier items like tools gardening appliances when I buy but tbh there was usually another seller willing...although it was sometimes too expensive to be worth it

And in every case I could get around it with a forwarding service if I wanted to et c

tbh I either usually tune them out as useless soundbites or listen waiting for the clanger

Weston is the master of not saying anything inaccurate often but just summarising what the dogs on the street know....

I can't wait until some of the newer ones try to get a profile by saying and printing stuff thats "edgy"

Ordered from Amazon DE this morning - no issues, item on way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

She may have confused the no free delivery thing.

Plus Amazon.de is not really Amazon Germany, just like with all the other domains it's just a different frontend for the same sale from Amazon EU Sarl just with different price/availability and shipping cost. And obviously there is a restriction on some items that cannot be delivered cross borders or with too high a shipping cost.

And even than in the end the goods might not actually come from a warehouse in the same country you order from, I have Amazon.de orders from warehouses in Germany, Ireland (yes 2-day premium for some items), the UK, France, Spain or Italy via UPS or AnPost.

That is why tools like hagglezone are so important, money can be saved by choosing a different country of sale sometimes.

I find it hard to believe that Amazon Europe will no longer accept orders via the amazon.de webpage for customers in other EU countries, plus doing so might even be against the law.

    Hi,

I placed an order on Amazon a few days ago. It was not dispatched yet.

I got an email today informing me that my order has been cancelled?

Has this ever happened to anyone? What are the possible reasons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,087 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

More excuses than reasons most of the time.

    1. Its not in stock and they can't get more stock
    2. Its too expensive to ship it to you
    3. Its not in a warehouse that ships to Ireland
    4. Third party seller won't sell to Ireland because shipping costs more.
    5. Third party seller has cancelled it for their own reasons.
    6. Item had a safety issue
    7. Someone has realised there are batteries in it.
    8. Amazon has had issues with the 3rd party seller.
    9. Problem with item - Amazon discovered it was fake.
    10. etc etc

and before I forget its never happened to me but I've had stuff that took months to dispatch because it was too expensive to send to Ireland (they were looking to find a cheaper carrier) or warehouse wouldn't ship to Ireland.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,233 ✭✭✭I am me123

Thanks very much for the info @The Continental Op.

I've re ordered the item from a different seller, so fingers crossed it works out better! 🤞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,087 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

I thought it would be from a third party seller. Amazon tend not to do that and leave it to Customer Services to try to get you to cancel the order when you ring up to complain how long you have been waiting.

I'm quite sure some third party sellers have no idea of the cost of shipping to Ireland until they get hit with the bill. Recently got a great deal for only £8 shipping. Two days later shipping for the same item had gone up to £20. Noticed in the past when I have bought from Amazon Market Place sellers that I can only get the item once and afterwards it becomes no longer available to Ireland.

Wake me up when it's all over.
