Ah, whatever about the rights and wrongs of it, I think people often forget the pageantry some British people enjoy. Some of them revel in the fact that they won two world wars. I'm ambivalent about it. Part of me thinks 'fair play, their ancestors were involved in some pretty bid world events' and I know the Irish would be similarly proud if our military was a leader in such big operations.

Another part of me thibks it's ridiculous that people like MP Mark Francois say "we won the war". While he's right that Britain was part of winning the war, he wasn't even alive during the war and he contributed nothing towards winnings the war.

A but of patriotism is no harm. But when people start thinking they deserve credit for things their ancestors achieved, then it becomes ridiculous.

I wouldn't wear a poppy but can't bring myself to get upset at anyone who wants to wear one.
I agree. Over the top patriotism annoys me, wherever it comes from. You're right - trying to claim credit for the actions of others is ludicrous, more so, it's illogical when it's generations ago. Quite a few do it in both countries, [Britain and Ireland].

The Irish are worse at it though. Listening to Irish Arsenal vs Irish Liverpool supporters is odd. "We are better than ye cos blah blah blah.." ya but "We are better than ye bacause blah blah blah".

Any more updates on the white Poppy?

    This happened recently:

'The Public Prosecution Service has stuck to its original decision to bring charges against no more than one soldier in relation to Bloody Sunday.

It followed a review of the cases of 15 veterans, who it determined there should be no action against last year.

Thirteen people were killed and 15 were wounded when the Army opened fire on civil rights demonstrators in Derry in January 1972.'

Wear your poppy with pride, you support these murderers.

    I will.

You have no issue with supporting the killers of innocent Irish people?

It's not an opinion, I asked you a question. My original post was in relation to the murder of innocent Irish people by members of the British armed forces, you indicated that you have pride in supporting these murderers. I just asked you to clarify as surely that can't be the case?

For clarification, no I didn't, that's what you took from it but not what I said.

You can keep trying to put words in his mouth, and won't succeed. Give up the charade and spite the devil. The troll factor in this thread has escalated significantly.

It's not an opinion. You buy the poppy every year, you stated this. The money from this goes to support members of the British armed forces, including the murderers of innocent Irish people. If that's fine by you then say it, don't hide.

Oh inhave made my position very clear on this subject over the years, please feel free to read the last 10 or so annual poppy threads. You're a re-reg of someone who I dare say already knows my stance so why should I explain myself to you or anyone else again?

I am not going to read over any of your previous posts, I am not a re-reg and you have already made your stance clear on this thread; you support the murderers of innocent Irish people every year. Stop hiding.

What are you on about? You literally said this:

Yes, you're correct, I did say that.

Then you tagged your opinion onto what I said.

Oscar Wilde - The truth is rarely pure and never simple.

The BA done terrible things in this country. Lots of Irish lads served in the BA. Most of the time it was for a job, steady pay.
If my great grandfather died in WW1 and I for some reason wear a poppy what’s the issue? As an Irish man that works in the UK a lot no one has ever commented on me not wearing a poppy.
The whole thing is a non issue.

First they came for the socialists...
