The law reform crowd were only speaking about road traffic law recently and how complicated and messy it's become.

Supposedly there will be a revamp and updating of the whole thing at some stage and this is exactly why, there's over 20 acts just about bloody license plates!
My guess is that it will be 15-20 years before any changes happen

Remember that solicitors and barristers have a very large monetary interest in the way things are.

Why fix it and see the income of your profession drop?

As said above, it usually signifies the driver is a bit of a dickhead.

Or one of those teeny tiny plates, boy racer and/or dickhead.

    haters are gonna hate...lol

If the plate is perfectly legible, they're really not harming anyone.

Yes they are, it's a menace on one's eyes.....

If they're not legal then simple, don't fit them, why bother.

They are harming the reputation of the turd that put them on and thinks they look good.

Wake me up when it's all over.

What do you do, and what’s the lesser penalty?

It wouldn't be prudent for me to be giving legal advice..
    Best consult your solicitor.

It would be a summons, not a ticket then. If I'm correct, there is a section of the Road Traffic Act 1961 that assigns a value for all offences that don't have a specific amount assigned.

True.. but in a situation where a FCPN is there.. it should be issued prior to a summons.. but the FCPN won't work.

    Catch22 for the Gardai.

Try and find a case in the past 8 months where someone has been prosecuted for non conforming number plates.

You won't, because they were all withdrawn.

Couldnt I say that about mechanics znd bad repairs?

    Gardai and crime?

    doctors, big pharma and cures?

Barristers and solicitors dont decide the law. They wont have any real input into the review

    WHAT?

An FCPN can only be issued where theres a set fine in place. Theres hundreds of road traffic offences not included in the FCPN system.

If they were withdrawn then it is still a result but district court doesnt publish its records so kinda hard to find either way

Jaysus I never realised the hatred for German style plates here! Personally I like them on BMWs of a certain vintage. Agreed when they’re on tee dee eye passats and the like they’re gack though.

Why are they gack on one car and not on another?

To me they suit something like an e30 BMW but not a Passat. That’s just me. It’s down to taste really.
