While we wait for the reveal to kick-off properly, how about a little taster to whet your appetite? :D

Here is a list of five, very different movies, some of which (but not all) may or may not make an appearance throughout this reveal (I’ll link to this list instead of posting it directly, in case anyone wants to remain completely spoiler-free):

Without giving away any movie names, how many of these movies do you think you recognise from what you’ve done? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,499 ✭✭✭IamMetaldave

I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve used an art-gallery-theme to both this reveal and to the sign-up thread. This is not without reason, because the starting picture…

    NRugP37.jpg

…is none other than “Starry Night” by Vincent Van Gogh, one of the most iconic paintings in all of human history. But don’t worry, I’m sure nothing will happen in this thread to disgrace its legacy...

    ...right guys?

Deleted User was up first to describe, but they were given a harder job than you might think, as I did not allow them to include the name of the artist or the name of the painting in their description. With this in mind (and lots of questions), BuileBeag offered up this excellent summary:
Swirly. Crescent moon. Venus. Village scene. Church. Mountains. Close Tree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Gru

    It was a superb description!!

Gru was our first painter, and complimented BuileBeag on their description, easily identifying what they were trying to get across. They did, however, also say “God help the next describer!” as they submitted their rendition of the old masterpiece:

Pretzill was up next, and they were also quick to identify the core of the picture. However, they saw more than just stars in the sky, adding a second artistic masterpiece into the mix, albeit one of a more modern variety:
Van Gogh's Starry Night meets Speilberg's Close Encounters, with church

Wow, I've learned from this thread that I have never properly looked at Starry Night before because that's my first time noticing the background; I thought it was just a picture of the sky! :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Gru

Delighted my painting looked enough like the original to inspire the description. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,515 ✭✭✭aaronjennings

Neowise had the unenviable task of combining two all-time classics in to one, but does a great job with this magnificent effort:

And I think the penny may have just dropped for a few people :D

Trigger’s immediate response to Neowise’s art was “Holy moly, excellent”, which I think is fully justified. He then submitted this description:
Ufo sucking up volcano, church under stars in the desert

emmm, I'm with you trigs! :o ......sorry! I can't paint impressionism well!

Deja Boo doubted whether they could do justice to Trigger’s description. I think it’s safe to say that they most certainly could, surpassing anything that most of could create on a good day, with:

Electric Nitwit said “Well that's... something! :pac:” when looking at Deja Boo’s painting… “something” is what it certainly is. They then produced this summary of the picture:
    Church.
    Man, camel.
    UFO over volcano.
    Area 51 roadsign, snake.
