    In 2nd Place – with 21 points…
    LeVar

    Blake Shelton - God's Country

Have I heard this song: Yes

    Ah here
    LeVar
is at it again :P He discovered the hidden cheat code of Blake Shelton in this round. I absolutely love his stuff. Religious overtures aside, this is a phenomenal track. It just makes you want to go out into the fields, grab a clod of earth and let it crumble in your clenched fists. God Tier choice :D

    In 22nd Place – with 1 point…
    Trigger

    No Frontiers - Mary Black

Unfortunately someone has to come last, it makes it worse given the story
    Trigger
told me about the song after he submitted it :( But it just doesn’t do anything at all for me. I’m loathe to be too critical of the song given the background which I’m sure he will share when he has time, but unfortunately it (the song) just didn’t resonate with me. Sorry
    Trigs!

Excellent as Heather Gummer in Tremors too. She kicked ass

    Meaning that

    In 1st Place – Scooping 22 Points….
    Deja Boo
    Desperado – Clint Black

It sort of had to be didn’t it :pac: Look I know it’s a cover – but it’s every bit as good as the original Eagles track imo (he actually released it on an Eagles tribute album).

And yeah it’s against my earlier comments of slow songs etc – but when you have a song this powerful with a voice this incredible it doesn’t really matter. Context is key. So well done

2 Round Premiere Show as was mentioned to me... I like the sound of it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

This category was all about the air guitar and rocking with your co… erm sorry this is a family show. Anyways here are a few ditties I was thinking about in particular for this round:

So let’s get cracking shall we? Same format as before – 19th to 4th and keep the top/bottom 6 in some suspense :D

So... the last round I said I loved every song, which was pretty much true.

Once again the quality here was off the chain. There were a few I couldn’t really get into even remotely though if I’m honest.

Need something to cheer me up after watching that dreadful football match, as do a few others I imagine. This should be a great round with some good old rock tunes

    In 19th place with 4 points…
    Sawduck

    Foreigner - Jukebox Hero

Yeah this just wasn’t my cup of tea unfortunately. I’m familiar with I Wanna Know What Love Is, which is grand on occasion but I’ve never been blown away by Foreigner tbh. Sorry
    Sawduck.

    The timing of that post

    :o

    In 18th place – with 5 points….

    The purple tin
    Dead Kennedys: California Uber Alles

I didn’t dislike this song, it just never clicked with me. On paper it’s a great choice. The chorus gets on my nerves something fierce though.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    In 17th place with 6 points…
    Green&Red

Kings of Leon - Taper Jean Girl

I’ve a love/hate relationship with Kings of Leon. Their more popular stuff while I enjoy it is overplayed to infinity. Though Use Somebody would have done really well here. This unfortunately just didn’t fit what I was looking for in terms of the category.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 16th Place with 7 points:
    JP Liz V1

    Johnny Cash - Cocaine Blues

Hahaha, I do like this one but again it just doesn’t fit what I was thinking of for this category. Yep, I am a cruel mistress this time :D

In 15th place, with 8 points:
    S1ippy

Mansun - Rock And Roll Loser

The opening to this is very Cigarettes & Alcohol-esque. Definitely what I had in mind, the singer’s voice though. Whiny doesn’t even quite aptly describe it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,882 ✭✭✭tusk

    13 points!

    Don't mind if I do.

I have no confidence in this walrus tbh ahahha

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 14th Place with 9 points:
    Kolido
    Firehouse - All She Wrote

Another song that started up near the top but on relistens started sliding downwards. I think here is about right for it, very good choice.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    In 13th place with 10 points…
    Tusk

The Eagles - Victim of Love

I’m sensing a trend in these entries that I can’t put my finger on yet :P This is a really good song, I enjoy it a lot. But the competition in the upper echelon is rather fierce and so we end up here with this.

80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster - Celebrate Your Mother

This is daycent, really grimy feel to it which I like. Good choice.

Love the song, great pick. Should have picked Jello Biafra and Mojo Nixon for the country round!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 11th place with 12 points:
    ShaneU
Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town

Man I was sure this was going to be near the top of the pile as it’s a song I absolutely love. But I think I’m just so familiar with it that it slid down into the middle of the pack. Still a great pick.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 10th place with 13 points:

    Gru
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a prayer

Another ‘cheat code’ song for this round really. You cannot go wrong with Livin’ On A Prayer, I’ll always stop what I’m doing and jump on my coffee table for that chorus. Over-familiarity costs it a few places though – this actually won a category in the previous Walrus I hosted.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 9th Place with 14 points:
    JohnGreenFan

    Thunderstruck - AC/DC

Ah here, stop the lights lads – the quality tunes are coming from everywhere now! It’s another belter and perfect for this category. A romper stomper of a song and one I’ve absolutely rocked out to on many occasions. But, like Livin On A Prayer before it, over familiarity cost it a few places in the end for new shiny things :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,941 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

Last three songs should be top three

    I demand a recount! :pac:

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 8th Place with 15 points:
    Clarabel

    Little Monster - Royal Blood

Hmmm… Monster, Little Monster – did someone’s Spotify get stuck on a playlist :pac: Anyways it makes no difference – the chorus of this is epic and that bass line…. Oh yeah my air guitar fingers are twitching already.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 7th Place with 16 Points:
    Rikand

Eddie Money : Two Tickets to Paradise

Haha, an oldie and a classic. Top top choice
    Rikand.
I’ve spent the last few days belting out the chorus at random intervals so for that alone it’s worth it’s slot here.

In 6th Place with 17 points:
    Reberetta
    Girl Trouble - My Hometown

This is classic rock and roll and it’s just brilliant fun. Very enjoyable and a great entry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭Reberetta

Back in contention! Did you ever hear that song before Necro?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

No I didn't, really enjoyed it though. :D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

In 5th Place with 18 points:
    LeVar

Gary Moore & Phil Lynott - Out In The Fields

Ah Jaysus now we’re rocking. The top 5 in this are what I like to call God Tier – just absolutely untouchable, the only tough part about it was determining their rankings. Familiarity has this drop a place or two but it’s a belter. Fingers are twitching again!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭Reberetta

I always try to submit songs that the host won't have heard beforehand. I could have gone for Bon Jovi or AC/DC if I wanted to be boring. ;-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Very happy with 5th, especially combined with the 2nd place in the previous round... It's been a good Premiere Night Double Bill for LeVar... :D

Led Zeppelin - Rock And Roll

Here we fcukin go lads, this is a cracking track. Fits the bill to a tee in what I was thinking about for this category. Screw Stairway, this is much much better. *Runs*

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

And that takes us to our final 6 again… Nervous times ahead for
    Deja Boo
    Mustang shelly
    RasTa
    Arghus
    Trigger
    Irish Aris

Quite right, Stairway is overrated. I can think of at least a dozen better Zep songs offhand.

    In 20th Place with 3 points…
    Deja Boo

I'm the Only One - Melissa Ethridge

Not gonna be two in a row for
    Deja
unfortunately. This is an ok song, I do think she is straining herself so much in the chorus she’ll end up with haemorrhoids though. It’s just not ‘there’ when I think of Rock’N’Roll. Meredith Brooks would have done way better, but anyways…

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,133 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Mustang shelly
ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man

    Heh,
    mustang shelly
this time was reading from my notes. ZZ Top are great, this is great. Fab choice.
