I purchased a house recently and this was left by the old owners and is plugged in on the landing.

There are no real marking or identifying signs. Anyone have an idea what it is? I have taken its advice and not plugged it out, but I have no idea what it is.

I have a feeling it might be something to do with the alarm, but I am not sure...

    Looks like a phonewatch system.
Give them a bell and get them to remove it

Yes it a phone watch system if you unplug it the alarm will go off until the battery drains

It may also still be active and the police could arrive

Ring phonewatch and let them take care of it
