They said however that there was only three decades of the five said by the priests present. I asked them when this happened and it fell during Lent. Is it the usual to say only three decades during lent or is it because it was for a priest.

Both during Lent and for a priest, 5 decades is the norm. Although I have been at wakes where one decade has been said by a priest who I presume was rushing to other duties.
