Red wine recommendation

How Soon Is Now

It's me da's birthday next week so just looking to get him a nice bottle of red from the kids. I know he drinks the likes of Sangre De Toro or Faustino but I want to find something different for him that he hasn't tried and as its a present I'm hoping to find something he will really enjoy.


I don't mind spending a bit more than the usual ten or fifteen euro but ya nothing crazy :pac:

A grand reserva rioja would be a step up in quality than the brands listed but similar taste profiles. Faustino have premium offering

If budget goes to 30e then Obriens have Ascheri Barolo on offer at the mo. Sensational italian red.

Faustino I is excellent, got one on offer in Dunnes last weekend for €20 to put away for Christmas, don't know if it's still on offer but well worth the usual price of about €25.

Yeh, It's definitely as good as you can get at 25, for 20 it's great value. Would usually buy it as a present if on offer. Was in Tesco a few weeks ago at around 20 also.

If you have any good wine shops or off licence with a good wine selection I’d go and ask there for a recommendation. O’Briens are the best of the chains and you can usually get good advice.
