Did anyone apply? I got an acknowledgement but haven't heard anything since (3 weeks or so).

    Me too.

Seems a bit slow. Might be because it is a bit more specialist.

    Patience, grasshopper :)

How about now? Don't want to be asking those ants for any grain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭Lorddrakul

    Not a dickie-bird yet.

    Huzzah!!

Interesting that number of questions vs the AP and PO video interviews

    Next steps (Batman)
It says that selection methods may include:
    Shortlisting
    Competitive preliminary interview
    Remote interview
    Completion of online questionnaire
    Presentation or other exercises
    Final competitive interview
Work sample/ role play/ media exercise etc

Given the wide window for video interview, I wonder if there was shortlisting. It would suggest not.

At a guess, I would say video interview,( then possibly some sort of test) and then a live interview.

Got my notification too. I agree that it seems like they didn't do any shortlisting, which is interesting given how long it took them to get to this stage!

Was this a Communications Manager role, or Officer/Executive? I missed it anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,843 ✭✭✭tea and coffee

It's called Communications Manager. It's a specialist stream at AP level.

Is there anyone who applied and did not get an invite to the next round?

Tea and Coffee, thanks for letting me know about this dedicated board!

Starting to do my prep work now for the videos. Would really love this role, more so the than the general AP role even.

Also, does anyone have the original booklet? I can't find it anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Nekro Man

Is this the only thread for this comp?

I did the video questions this morning and found it hard to squeeze what I wanted to say into 3 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

Did mine this morning too. The time vanished! I had timed myself going through my answers and thank god I was running a bit under the 3 minutes in those because I just hit the 3 minutes for pretty much every question in the actual video. Would have definitely run out of time if my timed answers had been 3 minutes.

Oh well, it's over now. Fairly sure I won't qualify on the leadership question but sure we'll see!

Does anyone know how the scoring works? Do you need to meet the standard in all 4 questions? Thanks

Not sure on this but I'm assuming it's probably the same as the mainstream AP competition, so could be worth checking out that board!

    Good luck btw :)

It's possible that one question is a shortlist question. Usually it's leadership but in this case possibly the communications question itself? I know in previous competitions they told you that though so maybe not.
Yes I would have thought you need to pass all the questions.
Given the long window, I would say maybe 400 videos, whittle to 200 maybe, then shortlist those from forms to 100 or in any event approx 100 for interview with a panel of 40 or so? With less than 20 depts, all of which already have press offices, and agencies who often have their comms at HEO, how many Communications AP would you think are needed? Hope I'm being pessimistic but with a longer panel than that, unless it's open ended, I can't see much beyond that (40 or so) being drawn even of they were to make a massive panel.
It would be great if the panel was double that and everyone in every agency and dept was prepared to professionalise like that, here is hoping but definitely not expecting.

You too. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I'm new to Civil Service applications, is there generally a time frame when you can expect to hear back? I'm very much not expecting to get to any further rounds but would like to just stop thinking about it really!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,843 ✭✭✭tea and coffee

I would say end of the year at least before a panel is formed.

Has anyone been onto PAS querying when applicants might hear back after the interview for this comp?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 Sobchak

Yes. Today. They said the Board are currently reviewing the videos and as soon as that's done, they'll be in contact with results.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

I know PAS competitions are generally slow but this competition is definitely taking the cake!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Lorr

At this rate half the applicants will have reached retirement before we hear anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,843 ✭✭✭tea and coffee

It will be this Fri at 5pm.... just wait

    Lol :)

Would be great to know one way or the other 're comp at this stage??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Nekro Man

Wouldn't want to be in any kind of rush eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 batman007

Definitely not! I emailed them yesterday and received the below reply today:

"Thank you for your email. The video interviews are still being assessed and will be for the next few weeks. Subsequently, once all videos have been assessed results will issue.

Unfortunately, due to COVID things are taking a bit longer than usual.

    Kind regards,

    Sean Healy"

    Finally some results!

I didn't get through which is as expected and happy to just have this out of the back of my mind at this stage.

Best of luck to everyone through to the next stage. Sounds like it is just a final interview from my rejection email.

    No joy here either.

Would have been nice to get some feedback.

Thanks Jeremy! I've emailed them now. Not surprised I didn't get through but curious to know where I fell down.

Met the qualifying standard but didn’t get through as was over 100 in OOM & only 30 progressing. I’ve since started a new job in the same area on much higher salary so no loss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 batman007

Did you get that today in the public jobs notifcation? My response didn't have OOM or any other details.

Also, congrats on the new role and the salary!! Is it in the public or private sector?

Thank you. Yes there was a message on public jobs noticeboard. It’s private sector- was unemployed for last year due to Covid so happy to have landed a role in right area with decent package.

No joy here either. Be interesting to see how many have actually gone through and then offered the role, seen as it's been 6 months to get this far.

Well done everyone in the meantime who got this far

Indeed, no joy, and to be honest, a bit surprised.

How does one go about asking for feedback?

Lorddrakul, I emailed this address to ask for feedback - APcomms@publicjobs.ie

Anyone else receive OOM like MrMistoffelees? My email just said the following:

    Dear XXXX

Further to your attendance at the online video interview for the above-mentioned competition, I regret to inform that you have not been selected by the interview board to progress to the final interview stage on this occasion.

On behalf of the Public Appointments Service, I would like to thank you for your participation in the selection process. To set up job alerts and receive e-mails with the latest job opportunities visit www.publicjobs.ie to update your profile.

This is exactly what mine said too. I wonder did we not meet the qualifying standard? 5 years managerial experience was always a stretch for me so I wouldn't be surprised.

I refer to your attendance at the online video interview for the above-mentioned competition. While you have reached the qualifying standard and were placed xxx on the order of merit, only the top 30 candidates from the video shortlisting are being invited to the next stage of the selection process.

Should it be necessary to call a further group to the next stage and your place is reached, we may be in touch with you again. Please ensure that you check your publicjobs.ie message board regularly in relation to this competition.

I got through and have an interview in 2 weeks.

Must admit I did the video interview in the 11th hour and was very rushed but delighted.

    Now, time to prepare.

They just sent a message on who the interviewers would be which I didn't know was a thing.

    It's quite helpful actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 batman007

Best of luck with the interview!!!! :):)

Any idea how many people they are looking for?

    30 called for interview.

So would there be 5 roles? More? Less?
