    At this link.

    Reverts to £7.99 afterwards.

Don't know how long this offer will last, but it's silly cheap at £1 a month.

That's a fantastic offer, I'm already a subscriber and pretty happy but at that price it's a no brainer if you're a sports fan imo.

great offer, is it an intro only offer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,740 ✭✭✭dirtyden

What does it cover? Is it mainly US based sports?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,741 ✭✭✭bigron2109

Thanks a lot . Signed up last year when this was half price . Cancelled my sub in September as it was due to renew in October for the full price .

Signed up using the link above and a new email address and went through fine. Just log out of the App or the Website if you have a account already if you want to get this offer.

Brilliant offer, thanks for posting. Like bigron, I signed up for the year at half price last September so I just signed up with a different email as well and cancelled my old one.

For anyone on the fence about signing up, it’s a fantastic site if you’re a football fan, well written and meaty articles covering every PL and Championship team as well as European leagues and a range of other sports outside football (their NBA and MMA writers in particular are top class).

Cheers for that. They have a great article about Ravel Morrison up at the moment that is worth this months €1.11 alone!

Is it a real magazine or online access?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,387 ✭✭✭FourFourRED

My £24 annual sub expires in December but I think it makes financial sense to sign up now with a new account, no guarantees it will be as cheap as this when I’m up for renewal.

    Id Like to know too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,610 ✭✭✭shocksy

    Its online access only.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 149 ✭✭GDK_11

I’m not sure I would pay the 8 quid a month but £1 is value, signed up last night. There are some really good journalists like Rafa Honigstein, Daniel Taylor and Michael Cox and the American sports sections are excellent if that’s your thing.

    Thanks OP

Nope, you can use their app also. Sign up online, download the app and work away. I did this last night and it works for me.

Does this give your access to their podcasts or are they already on Spotify etc?
Is there a big focus on the podcasts or is it primarily articles?

Yes and what's being on an app called? It's called being online. Christ almighty.

We weren't discussing web browsers or apps.

The posters asked was it a magazine to which the answer is no. It's ONLINE only.

As posted above I signed up last year in Sept when it was half price . I cancelled the renewal this week and signed up to this offer.

    Happy days :)

Sweet, was waiting to see if there was going to be an offer like this. Thanks OP.

Weirldy enough I was signed up for a year which actually already ended but I'm still a subscriber but haven't paid anything since Feb, only realised this when looking at my Google play account. Strange but I'm not complaining

Absolute rag with a clear agenda

In what way and in relation to what? There's a huge number of contributors on the site so I'd find a specific agenda hard to fathom

Football (soccer) coverage is international with excellent articles on English and European football and a number of writers formerly with the big English papers (e.g. Daniel Taylor ex of the Guardian).

Other than that it's mostly US sports, and Boxing.

I subbed on a decent annual deal last year but TBH I'm not reading it that much.

I'm placing my money on this poster thinking it's "The Atlantic". Makes the comment even funnier.

And why would a Trump lover get facts and accuracy in the way of a rant anyway...

Thanks OP. I had let my original annual subscription expire so I jumped on this. Their level of in-depth coverage of football is unrivaled.

My sub was to renew in Oct at $59.99. I like the product a lot but assume I can get it a bit cheaper than that somehow. I paid $29.99 for first 12 mths and was happy to.

So it's all weird yank sports like Gridiron, Baseball, Basketball etc?

Nope, very good coverage of the Premier League. Decent for internationals, but not much on Ireland really. Not sure about other European leagues, but I think it's meant to be good

For a quid it's worth signing up, you can cancel anytime.

Given that you clearly can't read it's probably wasted on you.

I have it already. got it on black friday for €15 for the year

Really good for Boxing, MMA and Premier league/Scottish football.

I particularly like the interviews they do, im a newcastle fan so previous player ones have been good.

Their was a great one with Stephen Ireland last year also

How good is their coverage of the Kilkenny Junior B football championship?

Is it access to all the sports and all articles?

Yes including their US sister site.

The Athletic's business model seems to be seriously flawed. They are a step away from giving away subscriptions at this point. I've been subscribed for a few years now and every few months they seem to become more desperate to hold onto subscribers. Something's gotta give eventually but let's enjoy it until that day comes. This offer is unbeatable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭bugsyb4

    Thanks OP great offer.

Was signed up until New Years for €26.99 but looked there and said renewal would be €64.99 which is way too much although excellent content on offer.

Same as other posters said signed up with different email to what I am using, will take the hit of paying for it twice for the next 4 months at an extra cost of €1.10 a month :):)

I'd be interested to see the split between UK and US based services. In the US, it's big news if a good beat writer for a specific team or city is poached and people would legitimately pay to keep reading their work. Over here/in the UK, not so much. Paywall journalism is already barely keeping its head above water, there just isn't the same appetite for a specific reporter over here. Most people will just read the next (free) man up.

They are flush with venture capitalist funds at the moment but even so apparently had 600k subscribers at the end of 2019. Even at the low intro price of 12 euro for the year thats 7.2million a year that would be loss making if that model was to stick around. Covid must be reducing subscriber numbers too

They have annual subscriptions of $60 million but are still not profitable. They have an interesting business model but I am not convinced that it will be sustainable in the long term with them doing such deep discounts.
