I've a mate who is trying to convince me its the best of both GoW meets Soulslike. And that has me intrigued, but im still gonna wait for physical, if it ever happens.

Also defo wait until you get the Pro, hopefully it will help with the performance issues.

    Duly noted!

I'm just a couple of hours in, it's great fun. Combat feels great, it looks great, it's definitely one of the GOTY in my books. Your mate is 100% right, it's a mix of what's great in GoW and Souls.

Just finished it this weekend. Great game, 8/10, for me it's the provisional best game of 2024 pending STALKER 2 and not really considering Shadow of the Erdtree a full new release.

I played this game a couple of weeks ago on the PS5.

It was a timed trial, so I only played a couple of hours but overall I found it pretty mediocre to be honest.

The input lag on the PS5 is ridiculous which makes the combat feel really unsatisfying.

There should be no input lag, certainly not a ridiculous amount of it.

There is on PS5. It uses frame generation to get to 60 FPS so apparently feels like absolute crap to play. PC is a different story entirely.

Well, that sucks. Is it because of that new PS5 upscaler?

Nah, it was an issue with the release version - as noted in great detail in the DF video in the thread.

It did get a PS5 Pro patch and 120hz mode on base PS5 earlier this week I believe so that may have improved matters.

Just played the 2 hour trial on the Pro, set it to Balanced mode and it played great from what I could see. Combat is really fun, nice and fast, will defo pick it up the next time it’s on sale.

DF video after the latest patch. Balanced mode on a 120Hz panel is the sweet spot for now.

Yeah, this is a Soulslike. I'm not gonna get far enough into it to get the GoW references, but this is 100% a Soulslike in every way I've seen in this first area and boss, aside from being faster. Lull you in with simple enemies and then kick you in the face with the first boss. Or even that Wandering dude before the first boss... not my type of game. I may give it another few go's before I fully decide, but I can't see myself continuing.

For sure if soulslikes aren't your cup of tea then this won't be either. I bought it after playing the trial mostly because the fast paced combat is great fun, that and the game looks and sounds fantastic. I'm only in chapter 2 but it feels like a boss rush mode soulslike, so many bosses, many are optional but some can give you items that will help in later boss fights. Whiteclad Noble was the first major stumbling block for me in the chapter 1, took a fair few goes to finally get him. While the bosses can be tough the overall game feels more forgiving than Dark Souls - you don't loose anything on death for example, that's a major help for levelling. You're also given an item that lets you warp back to the last shrine without loosing anything either (although you can just teleport using the map too). Nice little QoL improvements they are.

It was maybe unfair of me to say its 100% soulslike, those qol improvements do make it a bit easier, no losing everything when you die is a nice change. But the souslike combat is what stops me really. Its all me, I don't have the patience for them!
