2020 Grand Slam of Darts

The qualification criteria for the 2020 Grand Slam has been announced. Unsurprisingly the BDO spots have been cut to only two places with Wayne Warren and Mikuru Suzuki being selected as their World Champions.

Full criteria can be found here:
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=620

The most interesting aspect of this tournament has always been the inclusion of both PDC and BDO players. With only two players from the BDO this year, it makes the Grand Slam far less interesting. This will also be the final year for BDO players to be invited unless the WDF can get their act together in 2021.

Seems White, Rajski, Searle and Joyce are definitely in.......I hardly contain my excitement.

Winner of this weeks Euro tour and the winner of the Winter Series also gets a spot, providing they are not already qualified obviously

Is it true someone from the webcam darts qualifies too? Absolutely farcical if so

    doubt it.

I would imagine if they were short they would use the home tour players first before that webcam nonsense.

They could also increase the numbers of qualifiers from the slam qualifier that is coming up.

chizzy who is currently in the top 10 still has not qualified

That's what I meant by home tour. That's basically a webcam set up in the kitchen yet could qualify you for a major tournament ?

ah right, if that home tour which i have not seen is webcam rubbish, then absolutely should they not get a slam spot

If they are short, take players from the yearly "pro tour oom"

I think this all shows that the PDC definitely need to change the qualification criteria for this!

either its a proper pdc ranking or its an invitation
at the moment its a mix of both and a joke

Is the GSoD wiki page wrong

if you look at the floor championships winners it only has Ratajski and White.
Yet Ryan Searle and Ryan Joyce won pc comps as well.

if you include those 2 that would make the 32 players.
I can only speculate they are being left off in case the World Cup provides 2 players

They have to wait to see who makes the final of the world cup is it ?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Justin Credible Darts

if you read the pdc article linked with that post it says there will be at least one player that will qualify via the world cup.

but there was 3 euro tour winners, of which cullen was one.
4 player champs winners, who in "my opinion" are far more deserving of a spot than some qualifier who gets to the last 8 of a trimmed down qualifier.

surely winning a full 128 pro tour players champ is more deserving, than some player who rocks up to a qualifier and reaches the last 8

The floor qualifiers were on yesterday with a truly ridiculous 8 players qualifying for this tournament based on a one off floor tournament. At least we got a few decent qualifiers from it.

    Final Matches
    Ricky Evans 5-2 Steve Beaton
    Adam Hunt 5-2 Peter Jacques
    Krzysztof Ratajski 5-2 Mickey Mansell
    Ryan Joyce 5-2 Jason Lowe
    Dave Chisnall 5-4 Brendan Dolan
    Simon Whitlock 5-3 Matthew Edgar
    Justin Pipe 5-1 Ryan Searle
    Gabriel Clemens 5-0 Rowby-John Rodriguez

Good draw for the neutral, Group E and Group F the groups of death.

Group C could be messy if someone slips up against Ashton.

Cross can't afford any slip ups in his group

I thought Keane Barry is the world youth champion but it's actually a middle aged man Luke Humphreys.

Just a heads-up that the times of this are way different to the usual.

e.g., kicks off Monday afternoon - evenings sessions on Monday & Tuesday but no evening session on Wednesday coz football. Final is at 6pm next Tuesday.

Durrant battered 5-1 by Wattimena with Duzza throwing only a 78 average. He was terrible in the Winter series too.

Looks like his bout of covid has really affected him.

Wayne Warren doing the BDO proud as he just manages to get above a 70 average and finishes on a 70.08 average without a single shot a double in the entire match.

I'm fairly sure a good few posters in this forum could have beaten him.

I'd have a bit of sympathy, as with the BDO going kaput he won't have played much competitive darts in about 8 months.

Also probably entitled to feel a bit down in himself as his 'win the world title' dream has turned into a bit of a mare - only getting a quarter of the money previous winners did, no more BDO tournaments to be introduced as champion of the world in, and the lockdown meaning he even misses out on getting in a few £500-a-pop exhibition nights.
