Unfortunately there are a cohort of managers who prioritise their own performance reviews over a once in a 100 year public health emergency.

    These people are clowns.

My own company has been clear with guidance. We have available offices all over the world but strategic leadership is actively encouraging people not to come in until next year at least. I just can't fathom the negligence in some places, it only takes one badly managed case to explode out into 100s.

your post made me laugh. Im public sector - work in third level. We had cases of Cov19 on campus before the lockdown - we didnt close just certain buildings closed off.

When the govt announced schools and universities would close we still didnt close. - only closed when we went full lockdown.

despite cases on campuses and it spreading we had no hand sanitiser etc. Nothing. large events were still being held on campus.

Will be interesting to see what it is like when we go back.

Is your manager also the head of the organisation you work for and do you have a HR department that you could escalate this to?

Rather than saying you don’t want to go back, I would send a query saying that you have been advised that you need to return to the office but haven’t been advised of any return to work/COVID protocols which will need to be followed to minimise risk. Ask them to send you a copy if there is a protocol in place.

If they don’t have one, then you ask how are they intending to implement the government guidance.

    No, a different Union.
My manager is also my Union rep.

speak with a different rep and get onto HIQA

get as much info as you can and be clear as to what they guidelines are. They may not be what you think they are.

Yes - all of this. I have seen our guidelines and it doesnt make me happy but it exists.

Yes, my manager is the Head of the organisation. My role is funded by a Government Dept.

I never said I don't want to go back, I've said I have concerns about going back. Nothing has changed since lockdown in my office, Social distancing cannot be done.

The 3 minute video and 3 questionnaire is our return to work protocol I've been informed.

I will query how they intend to implement government guidance. Thank you.

Yes my role is essential but has been working perfectly fine in a remote setting. This is why I am so uncomfortable returning to a crowded office setting.
We were sent a 3 minute video today and told to answer 3 questions - this was our covid training.

I will follow up with the union however I don't think they will help in this scenario.

You said in your op that you recieved no covid training and then a few posts later said you had to watch a vid and answer questions, what kind of training were you expecting?

I did the 'covid training' today, when I was sent it.
I posted that I hadn't received any training yesterday, before being sent the training.

I don't know what training I was expecting, I've never been in a situation like this before. I suppose I expected more training than a 3 minute video showing cartoon characters sneezing etc and answering what do I do if I have a temperature or cough.

    Apologies for misunderstanding you.
The vid ticks a box that you've done your covid training I reckon.
What training would there be on it only the same advice thats been repeated everywhere for months?

social distancing cant be implemented in my office either - we just arent back yet. I see now you did the training aswell. I think that is what we are getting aswell. Sounds sufficient really - what to do in x y z

I know you dont have to ID yourself but maybe if you were more specific in relation to your concerns.

Just because you're in that wrong situation doesn't mean that it should happen to everyone. It shouldn't be happening to you. It shouldn't be happening to anyone.

I think you have misunderstood my post.

In simple terms i just saying 'I'm in a similar situation, I feel your pain.

I wasn't saying 'well I'm in that situation so you should be too'

    🙂

Some places are horrible at dealing with this. My training involved the basics, temperature, distancing, hand washing, if you have any symptoms don't come to work... That was it.

I had to ask them what about members of a household and if they have symptoms. The most obvious answer is staying away from work but we weren't told this until I asked. Hopefully, my question gives them something to think about and have a better plan in place and not tell us about ourselves having symptoms but also members of your household.

ours is a video too but omits a lot. Also a questionnaire to see if you have symptoms and/or in at the at risk category.

    Think thats it.
