What's your least favorite word or phrase?

My least favorite phrase of all time is 'brain drain' also known as 'human capital flight'. More reading here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_capital_flight

The reason I dislike it, is that it treats humans like livestock and covets their precious brains, but nothing else. Not their character, personality, or their person-hood, just their (often encyclopedic) accumulation of knowledge.

A person is well within their right to emigrate and scout for positions in other countries. They shouldn't have to pledge an allegiance to the country that educated them. After-all, why educate in a certain field if there's no job guaranteed after, and people are forced to emigrate?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    "Reached out to".

A horrible, unnecessary, and stupid Americanism.

I grimace very time I read "we reached out to .........". What's wrong with just saying "we contacted"?

ec cetera (instead of et cetera)

going forward (instead of in the future)

    meeting with (instead of meeting)

hoi polloi (when used incorrectly. It means 'the common people/great unwashed/ the masses'; it does not mean 'the high and mighty')

Yup, that one is bad too. But I don't think it's as common here yet as that other one, which I can't even bring myself to type again......

    "I want to say..."

Q: When was the contract signed?
A: I want to say November?

Not only did you want to say it, but you did say it. And not only did you say it, but you said it in a way that shows that you don't actually know whether what you said was true or not. So while you pretended to answer the question, what you actually said is "I don't know".
