Advise on calibre

I currently have a .17hmr but want to move up to centre fire. Looking for something that's not much loader than a moderated hmr any advice.

What do you want to do with it?....

Fox / Rabbits - hornet or .223

Deer/ Fox - 243 or 6.5

Deer more so then Fox 6.5/ 308

Deer Open Hill 6.5 / 270 / 30-06

Calibre choice is very personal.

In regards to sound, it's a hard one, IMO the likes of .243 and .270 can be louder then the likes of 308 or 30-06. But all can be tamed with moderators.

Check out the price of the ammo before you buy anything. Some centrefire rounds are bloody expensive, and fmj rounds are not available easily for them, for plinking, sorry informal target shooting. .223/5.6 and .308/7.62 you can get milsurp ammo, and everyone and his brother makes it.

A .223 would be the most sensible choice unless your hunting deer
Hornady frontier is about 15 euro for 20 for practice and decent hunting rounds will run you a euro a pop
.223 is plenty good for goats with the right ammo imho
