Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hainaut, four dragons > demon dolphin. The other one is just ugly.

I'm late to the party but may I join in?

Bavaria for me. It makes me chuckle to think they originally designed it with squares but it got stuck in the printer (true story)

Plus the other two... look, I love an animal on a flag but if you're going to include one pay someone who can fecking draw to draw them!

Is that even their flag though?
    They seem very confused...

The Bavarian secret police try to suppress the truth to protect the region's reputation, but it's true I tell you!

La Rioja - a four stripe flag is a bit different from the norm. Plus I like their wine.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Toss up between the first two because they're both quite pretty, but going with Mecklenburg-Vorpommer. Apparently the yellow stripe represents the millions affected by yellow fever back in the 1700s. True story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,396 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Vote Cantabria - bit of class to it

La Rioja, the colours are too garish
Mecklenburg-Vorpommer looks like the background to a game of Frogger

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Yeah, the better of the two quadricolour flags on offer. I like the green/yellow combo in particular

La Rioja, pretty colour combination. Would make an excellent beach towel.

    I probably am though.

Let me just double check the La Rioja crest to make sure it's not hiding a lion....

    ....

.....ok, it's clear. La Rioja for the bold "horizontal tricolour but it's actually four stripes" move.

However it is in the Merriam-Webster dictionary because it's the dictionary most widely used by Americans.

La Rioja does it in record time! Last match of the round coming up next.

Marche - because the other two are just variations on a theme

    Saarland, I prefer the symmetry.

Regione marche looks like a warning label on a packet of poison, the bird on it looks like he's in the throes of terminal diarrhoea.

    Lion.
    Lions.
    No lion. :)

    Marche it is then.

I have absolutely no idea what that's meant to be, the closest I can come up with is 'Xatu throwing black sludge behind its back'. And I'm totally on board with that!!

Also, black white and green is a nice combination that's very underused on flags.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Not thrilled by any of them, but first two are too German, so I go for Marche. That's a woodpecker in the image which is a totem of the Picentini tribe of Italy. True story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,396 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Rhineland Palentinate, because it looks like they've just pulled back the curtains to surprise Homer with a lion :pac:

Marche's looks like the logo of a pharmacy where you'd buy cheap sunscreen that's past its use by date, we can't let that tat go through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Despite EN's protests, Marche marches on!

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Rhineland Palentinate - I like the German colours and it has fewer lions on it. The Marche flag loses out because I hate flags that tell you where they're from on them. It smacks of chronic insecurity. Plus it's a bird that they realised only made half an M so they added a black squiggle for the rest. Altogether a bit shoddy.

So it's time for Round 2 to kick off. It's all head to head bouts from here on out. Same as before, 5 votes will get a flag through and reasons will be considered in the event of a tie. 30 mins remains as your time limit. Let's see who's first up...

    Liege
    Belgian Province

Liege is a bit too "busy" but Sicily is just freaky, so I'd better stick with Liege.

I just realised I voted for the hybrid of the two, I meant Sicily but I reckon that was obvious from my description

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

I'm going with the freakiness, Sicily for me. I like how weird it is and the Liege one is a bit of a jumbled mess.

Yes to this. Sicily for the win!!

Don't like the baggy eyes on the Sicily one. Other than that, it'd win. So I'll vote Liege, which is just the right side of "too busy"

    Hey Sicily

The Isle of Man just called, they want their flag back.

    Liege for me

First found in the Isle of Man in the 13th century AD...

Fr Tod tied it up at 4-4 .......but, it was two mins after the expiration time.

Sicily rolls on, probably literally as that's how it would move I imagine.
