Under 50cm I'd have lived with, and the fellas said that too, they have been happy to go a bit under the limit as its not a grant job this time. But it would have been down to about 5cm. That's basically flush.

It's low down, but it gets strong direct wind all the time. Not worth the risk.

    Back in business.

    Looks good.

Are you sure you couldn't have added one more panel in landscape to have the landscape almost equal with the portrait?

I'd say you'll still be under the 600 with one more right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,996 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I could fit one more yeah.

13 is the limit though I believe. I think you're supposed to leave a bit of wiggle room on the voltage limits so both installer and the smarter folks here have confirmed 13.

Plus they're an older panel, only 310w. Hard to get hold of, so I just cleared off the last of the stock the installer had.

If I ever track down 2 more I'll chuck them on the house for 13 each.

Yeah, I'm the same. 50cm from the edge is my proposed expansion so I can go from 4 -> 6 panels on my east roof, but as you say it'll work out for the best albeit not aesthetically pleasing.

Word of caution. Make sure it's the open circuit voltage that your looking at. That could be 40v, but similarly it could be 44-45v on some panels meaning that 13 panels (might) be pushing it close. Personally I think you'll be fine with 13, but no harm to check now.

    Ooof, and away they go!

That 6kW inverter better show up soon, I need the charging power!

Can you get the new version?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,628 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

@DrPhilG see if you can get this model, seems to have a tiny bit more than the standard 6kw one that everyone has

The standard one we all have: RHI-6K-48ES-5G

Not sure if anything else is different but extra 0.6kwh won't hurt and even the backup seems to be a bit higher.

I'll check with the installer re voltage, but both the boss who I spoke to yesterday, and his spark who was on site today (1 spark, 1 roofer) looked up the spec when we were discussing changing from 12 on the garage to 14, and he also said 13 max based on the voltage.

This was the voltage on the south string earlier when it was booming.

    Screenshot_20220520-184714_Gallery.jpg

PS I think this is the spec for mine,so 40.3v for a total of 523.9v

Re wind concerns, the rails and clamps take care of all that, if they were ground mounted with zero behind them they would have to stand up to strong winds. The edging restrictions are more noise geared than safety in high winds IMHO

The 6kwh solis is a brilliant bit of kit. I didn't think it would be much better than the 5kwh but its well worth it.

Did anyone manage to delete old invertor from there solis cloud..it keeps telling me not authorized.

The reason I ask is because the data for some reason is still pulling in old data from my damaged one..??

Update _ I just deleted the entire plant and restarted it again👍👍

Another Grid Over Voltage alarm today in Fingal....

    Anyone else having the same?

yes, will edit comment to say Grid over voltage.

As its a Grid Over Voltage, that means it's not on my side right, but EirGrid have increased the voltage (which knocks out my inverter?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭connesha

Yes same here. 267v now, started 30 mins ago.

I just called ESB networks, they have no record of a current fault. (I hadn't seen the other reports before calling)

However they are putting a voltage monitor into my house in the next few days...

While today it is 267v, my supply has touched 253v a couple of times over the past 5 or 6 days, which also caused alarms.

I'm not sure what the actual inverter limit is, but it appears to Alarm anywhere north of about 252/253 v

    Hi All,

Just to let you know I've wired up my Sofar inverter so I'll be selling on my Solis 3.6 Hybrid.

Not sure if the pricing is competitive or not but I guess it depends on the market.

    Anyone any questions just shout.

I’ve another Grid Over Voltage alarm this morning at 8:37am!!!

    Anyone else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭connesha

Yep. Did you Report to ESB Networks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,284 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

No, I only noticed it while out on the school run,

Looking at my Solis app I see the Voltage under 'R' as 258v. Is this the grid voltage?

Looks like it! Did it stay high for long?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭connesha

Yes, I believe that's it. There are delays in the Solis Home app, so what you see could be 10 mins old.

I read it directly from inverter every 10 secs. Here is this mornings:

Not sure if it relates to grid overload but my smart meter is showing a lot more energy imported than my app. Only by Chance I checked it today and not a happy camper at all. PV installer reckons the power is being bouched back into the house and passing through the meter so being charged for my own export 😒

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,284 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Looks like it lasted about 30 minutes as I'm back online now... connesha's graph would also back up the 30 minute timeline as we are both on teh same local connection.

It would be interesting to see if that voltage rise is occurring on all three phases or is it just a particular phase that yourself and @AndyBoBandy are both on. Have you a smart plug with voltage monitoring that you could plug into a neighbour's house to monitor another phase?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,628 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

I think these voltage problems will only get worse (unless ESBN do something about them) as more and more people go with PV.

So I hope none of my neighbours get PV 😂

I have a battery over voltage. Second time to happen in 2 weeks.

Mod: edited out image which includes user's location.

I get grid under voltage alarms regular enough down the midlands in the sticks.

Used to happen here but not so much lately. U just need to put in enough panels to prevent it from happening 😉

In Aussie land where all the posh neighbourhoods have solar they have problems with the grid voltage going up past 270

I see that there's a sixth generation of solis inverter coming out. Looks like the backup ac can now go to 6Kw and there seems to be more support for multiple parallel inverters.
