Starting a society

    I’m a member of a society that’s starting to fall to the side as is a friend who is in a society that is in a similar situation. We’ve been asked by a few of the members to look at the idea of starting our own with like minded golfers. Possibly get 16-20 members to start.
    Having never ran a society before what’s the rules usually? Joining fee, types of courses for outings, what sort of price for a course and food and prizes?
    Any ideas appreciated.

    All of the above depends on whether you’re forming a society to attract golfers of a type of mindset, or are forming a society to cater for a pre existing group.

    If the latter you shouldn’t worry too much about what everyone else does. The vibe - ie the frequency of play, the quality of courses, the willingness to travel, the need for and quality of prizes, the need for a social angle, the preference to go out in same fourballs every time it to do it randomly - should already be understood. Your role would be to tap into that, and design the first year around what you know they like.
