    "Woke nonsense"?

It might have been nonsense but I'm not sure of it was woke by anyone's definition.

I'm open to correction as I may have zoned out during it.

Come on, he was joking with Flynn. That much was pretty obvious.

Not knowing how to pronounce a name is hardly lacking in NFL knowledge, and who gives a f*ck anyway, he's not masquerading as an NFL pundits.

Enjoyed the Wilson chat. Not sure how much I'm interested in his book though. Might be one of those ones where I can dip in and out opposed to reading in one go

Get the Anfield PRO on Monday’s pod. Ken can load up the nukes to rattle him now.

I enjoyed the Hamilton chat and the Wilson chat.

The former I wouldn't be a massive fan of normally but some of it was interesting. The latter, I always enjoy and himself and Ken bounce off each other very well.

For anyone who wants a bit more Jonathan Wilson content. He's on David O'Doherty's and Max Rushden's superb podcast 'What did you do yesterday?'

He basically just goes through what he did on a particular day. Something different from the usual football chat

Had been meaning to give that podcast a listen for a while, and that was the push I needed. Really enjoyed it - thanks for the tip!

Came here to post the same....

Haven't listened to the episode yet but can heartily recommend "What Did You Do Yesterday".…amusing inane conversational pod, the perfect diversion from the neverending mega load of doom and gloom

Yeah, that criticism hurt my brain a bit alright… I think a certain type of person just uses 'woke' for anything they don't like.

The thing he mentioned about having to keep it to around 7000 words per World Cup tournament makes it more interesting to me - could just treat it as a series of short stories effectively, one per world cup, and dip in and out while having another primary book.

    Nearly 700 pages...

I got through about half of the Argentinian book and I enjoyed but for some reason I had a couple of weeks I didn't have a chance to read and I found it very difficult to go back to.

Murph will have to do his own resignation speech on commenting on politics after the legendarily disastrous campaign Jimmy G staged.

It does make me wonder what sort of supermen Brian Fenton and Paul Mannion were to go and win five or six AIs in a row with that dose in the dressing room attempting to motivate them, though.

    JG…..an odd fellow. We’ve dodged a bullet!

I enjoyed the discussion with Jamie Hamilton. Am I woke now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,945 ✭✭✭Raoul

    I enjoyed it too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,928 ✭✭✭✭siblers

I enjoyed it a lot more than positionism v relationism

Given the podcast's ironclad non-corporate and independent credentials, it was surprising to hear Sinéad O'Carroll's almost sympathetic attitude towards the Jim Gavin controversy go unchecked.

Why couldn't she have some sympathy towards him? I have sympathy for him given what others in government have done and gotten away with (Harris et al.)

She can have sympathy for him on a personal level, the stress of all this on his family is hard to imagine.

I think it was fully obvious that none of them thought (once the campaign actually started, eh Murph?) that he was anything other than a disastrous candidate who really should have had a good friend talk him out of it. But that just raises bigger questions as to how FF thought he'd be OK in debates etc. which he had zero experience of. There are plenty of PR companies that do interview coaching / mock debates with candidates but it seems there wasn't time. Like Sinead said, all too rushed, but there was 7 years to prepare for this election!

All the debt stuff aside, he was certain to finish last anyway and probably by a quite embarrassing margin.

Really enjoyed that podcast, and the suggestion that he get back to sorting out GAA messes (largely) behind the scenes is a good one

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

If the talk online is anything to by, he could end up winning as all the spoil your votes folks are voting for him to force a new election. Could be funny to see in fairness

I'd have sympathy if he dropped out because he couldn't handle it and had paid the 3,000 euro when he was first informed of it.

But the fact he refused to pay it back leaves me with zero sympathy for him. Hes hardly short of money either, pure scummy behavior

If (not at all likely, but if) he wins then he's pefectly legally entitled to take up the post of President

Or he could take it up and resign

Or he could refuse to be inaugurated

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

The money still hasn't been repaid and yesterday's discussion had moved onto the rehabilitation of his character by the end of the show. It has already been repeated in this thread so perhaps people just don't really care about what he did.

An interesting listen. For many there will be no rehabilitation, a permanent black mark upon his name. The story had been out there for a long time.

I think you need to take a break from the internet if you think this is even remotely possible.

On more important matters, Ken’s wilful ignorance of the Old Firm has meant he’s missed out on one of the funniest stories in many, many years in football - Russell Martin’s cursed reign at Ibrox. I’ve tuned into more Rangers games in the last month and a half than I have in probably five years because it was so comical on the field and his post match interviews are the stuff of legend in their own right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭choosetheend

There is zero chance that he will get more votes than the two candidates who want to actually become president.

There aren't going to be more "spoil your votes folks" than people who just want to vote for a candidate.

The idea that he'll somehow get the most votes has been floating around all week and it's ridiculous.

Got to keep loading coal into that content machine. That's all it is.

Ben Healy seems like a great lad and all, dead sound, but he's about as Irish as my jar of Coleman's English Mustard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,928 ✭✭✭✭siblers

He reminded me a lot of Daniel Whiffin with how he speaks.

The fact he only picked Ireland because he wasn't good enough for the UK team says enough really. A reverse Declan Rice. He does seem like a really decent fella, hopefully he'll get a few more yellow jerseys

I dont know if this is strictly true but I have seen it said Healy had never been in Ireland before representing it. It's kinda funny if true!
