For the second qualifier, based on 80s output I will vote for Shirley MacLaine. The first role I saw her in was Madame Souzatska - I was 16 at the time and din't know much about cinema but I really enjoyed the film and her performance.

I think Keitel and Hopkins had better roles in the 90s - I would argue that the diversity of roles that Keitel had in the 90s should take him far if we were to do a similar 90s competition.
