What’s the app that costs 5 dollars ... is it 5 dollars once off?

    A cryptic crosswords app. Once-off.

Ahh that’s dumb then ... totally agree with once off apps... makes sense .. eg my SonosTube app... 5 euro for life and can play what I like

I wouldn’t be gone on monthly subscription apps though

What's funnier are people who buy a push bike worth a few grand, lock it with a pound shop grade lock and then are all surprised that someone had the nerve to steal it.

After using high end android phones for years and 6 months on an iPhone showed me it’s not even close either. iOS is just so far superior.

The Samsung v Apple debate is for teenagers. Sensible people know there's very little difference. With apps very few of them are worth paying for

I used to think that too until I tried an iPhone :pac:

But yeah really though you’re right and ‘far superior’ was a bit much. It’s definitely that bit more polished and suits me better at the moment but there are definitely advantages to Android too. If Google hadn’t bombed with the Pixel 4 I’d probably never know about how good iOS was and still be happy enough.

Microsoft Office365. All that cloud storage, email, documents stored across all devices thing is a game changer for a small business.

Doesn’t Google do all that for ‘free’?

Office 365 as JF says even if my company didn’t pay for it I’d buy the family license, same as I do with YouTube, another app worth paying for because it works out at less than €4 a month if there are six people in the family.

€5 for a cryptic crosswords app though?

You’d really want to love your crosswords I guess, although why you’d be doing crosswords on a €1,000 device... I think I’d stick to the newspaper every so often tbh.

We were using that for years, but were persuaded to move over to Office365 by a small Microsoft reseller. Worked out at about €1500 a year for 15 employee licences, and I swear we had the money made back in less than a month. Scheduling, appointment bookings, website updates etc.

I've spent a grand total of 12 euros this year on cryptic crossword apps and it's handily the best money I've ever spent. A nice cheap hobby I'll have for life and getting a tough clue is immensely satisfying. I usually print them from the guardian but I'm still happy to get some apps that can help me learn. There's no way I'd be able to do them without the first app I paid for.

Except for your time. Time is money

I take it you're not familiar with the google surveys app. They usually consist of 2-3 multiple choice questions so takes no more than 5 seconds at a time. I think I can spare that every couple of days or so.

I will usually download a free APP, if I find that I use it frequently than I will buy the upgraded version to support the developer.

This morning I just paid €20 for a years subscription to WINDY 😀

    .

YouTube premium can be got for peanuts through vpn. I pay 2 euro per month for a family premium account as I set it up as if I lived in India.

Haven't bought a phone in well over 10 years, I'm amazed people keep updating theirs every couple of years, second hand phones work just fine

I get a sub €100 Android phone about every 8 months at the moment as I have dyspraxia and tend to drop my phone regularly not spending no €1000 on something fragile that costs half as much to regularly repair

OP, is part of the reason why you think people should pay for apps because you believe they should be giving a contribution to developers of these apps that they get a lot of use out of?

Not particularly. The free versions have ads.

I just think that the relatively tiny outlay on apps compared to the cost of hardware makes it a no-brainer.

A fiver here, three euro there, it does add up. Having said that I've a few that are quite spendy.
Luckily work pays for my phone however if they ever hand me an andriod I'm fecked.

First they came for the socialists...

I find this whole android v apple guff childish. These massive billion dollar companies don't care about you, just that you'll buy their product. It's like being back at school, "My daddy has a nicer car than yoor daddy etc"

Feck all the android v apple stuff. I want to go back to my Nokia 808 preview....

At this stage After Hours really needs a dedicated Apple v Android thread and let proponents battle it out there so the rest of us who dont care can avoid the arguments
