Eileen Dunne just broke the story on the RTÉ 9 O'Clock News.

What would you do with €49.5 million during a coronavirus pandemic?

The “missing” €500k would bug the **** out of me when I checked my bank balance so I’d either have to get a loan or give it all away.

Really hope it's a big syndicate that won it

Take out an injunction against RTE to refrain from airing my business.

You could buy gold and then you'd have that 500k in a short time. Or hold on to it for the same amount big time, in fiat currency, and you'd get it rounded down (effectively, but not notionally, which is your desire).

    The smaller prizes are disgraceful.

Agreed, I had a match 3 in the plus which was 20 euro but 4 numbers was 2000 :O

Maybe increase the prizes for 3 to 300 or 500

My dad hasn't checked his ticket yet so I'm going to allow myself 20 minutes of believing we are now millionaires.

Why not come up with a draw where 100 people win 250k rather than one person/family winning 50 million, its crazy that one person can win that sort of dosh in one go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,059 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

There'll be no problem for the winner to quarantine in luxury anyway.

I also hope it is a syndicate or family group. It is a huge amount of dosh all the same.

It guarantees that unless you do something daft with it, or a big chunk of it, that for the rest of your time on this earth, you will never need for a single thing again. You can wake up safe in the knowledge that you never need to work, never need to borrow, you can afford houses, apartments, cars for the rest of your life.. every luxury, dream, enjoyment, is yours.

I use the pick3 aka 'hotpick' method of Euromills, won twice last year (1,500, for just 3 matches) per small coinage. This year's objective is 4 matching main balls to deliver 30k. Once in a blue moon attempt 5 main balls for a steadfast 1m.

Very rarely do the full ticket, as price & odds are unpleasent 139,838,160/1. Maybe only for the rare super-duper sized rolldown, or as part of large syndicate when the LOLN-numbers and star duo are deemed favourable. Or, When the moon is in the Seventh House And Jupiter aligns with Mars.

I've received two emails with two ticket numbers even though I only bought one ticket via the app.

Website and app still crashing to check if it's €3 I've won lol

Have had a ****ty day ... Been coughed at by a guy outside the courts, had my car broken into and wallet stolen (I use one for clubcards and vouchers and other for credit and debit cards... They got the clubcards and vouchers one)

I bought a lotto and euromillions on Sunday ... They were in the car, I haven't checked if they are still there, for now.... I'm hoping there's a massive amount of good luck coming my way....it's overdue !!

It would be fantastic that car was broken into and the feckers missed a 50million euro ticket !!

Some boss is getting a “**** you” email in the morning.

I hope it’s not one of these people who win and say “Ah, it won’t change me. I’ll be going in to work as normal”

What’s the bloody point in playing?! Money should be taken back from those guys.

Would the news outlets still say "ticket sold in Ireland" if the ticket was bought online?

Stupid father won't check his email :(

Also what may become know now as an 'Amber Hurd', perhaps located in the 2nd drawer of the desk, with the access key snapped off. Thus resulting in desk getting flung out of nearby window with rage, when the email arrives with 3 day send delay.

You can't use the app outside Ireland, at this point it could be an app ticket, once they release the location of the shop that sold it they will say if it is the app or not.

Thanks, we're in Ireland, just wondering if they know you're in Ireland yet bought online, if you know what I mean! I'm sure they do though! (the Euromillions gods that is)

I'm hoping my sister did it cos I didn't and she simply hasn't heard the news as she was watching another channel and has now gone to bed quite oblivious to the fact she is a multi-millionaire.

You can remain anonymous ... The only people who would know your wealth is you, your bank manager and financial advisor.

If I do find a ticket in my car ...and it won, I will not be going public with it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 632 ✭✭✭Sorry about that

I went into a local SuperValu this evening, with 7 minutes till closing, got the couple of things I needed and walked (in what felt like slow motion), up to the girl at the customer service till, taking the euro millions ticket out of my purse, like Charlie, opening a wonka bar.

I handed her the groceries (two tubs of stork), and asked her if she'd mind checking the ticket for me, because "I think it was won in Ireland haha". She went (slow motion) over to the machine, and checked it, looked up briefly, and said, "yes, you've won (my legs went to jelly) €5" (legs went back to normal).

    For 45mill, I’d be scanning f*** all.
I’d check them the old fashioned way.

What kind of interest would you earn on that when you deposit it ?

More than you could spend in a day without going mad

I wouldn't be so sure, just depositing it, in a negative rate environment.
But if you got even 5% fixed return on investment, you'd be made up.

If you won a million, eg Daily Millions, and invested and got a guaranteed 4%, which is 40k net per annum, you'd be on more net than most people are. And have 50+ hours back to live life, sweet life.
45m is insane for the average Joe. Stuff is stuff. Time can't be bought back.

You will spend all your remaining time worried about dying early.

I suffer from insomnia....or something very close as in I take ages to get to sleep and then am only out for two/three hours a night.

Anyway, I get myself to sleep by planning how I'd spend a lotto win - anything from a basic €2m to a mega euromillions win. Whatever sort of win I'd be comfortable for life and family/friends would be happy.

By now it's a routine, almost a meditation and it works to a point. But if I did win big, what would I do?

And yes, I know that even winning €6 like I did tonight, the odds are astronomical of winning anything decent.
