Opinions on onlyfans and adult entertainment industry

I have been a dancer in Dublin for a decade started in my early 20s a lot of the girls I work with are sound and believe me it’s definitely nothing you see on tv. However Ireland seems to have this negative attitude towards women in this industry or deems us all sex addicts or easy when the woman who gets bread in her local supermarket could be doing all kinds of dirty things that’s way worse than dancing and it seems to be okay because she’s doing it for free I don’t get the mindset of some of these people we have stage names in work to protect our identity.

Part of this job comes with a lot of stigma there’s been a few girls who had people find out their day jobs and contact their boss to try and get them fired it’s normally women who rat them out and try to ruin their lives over it. There’s nothing I’d love more than to be open about my job and how it’s helped me get through some dark times in my life but I just couldn’t handle all the derogatory labels and insults and lows people will go to try and ruin your life over it. Since covid hit I don’t know how the strip club industry in Dublin is going to survive.

I want to know what your opinions are on strippers and the likes of using onlyfans to make money nothing you say is going to bother me it’s more curios why people have a begrudging attitude towards these things when they do worse things for free with their husbands boyfriend or a random Jack the lad from coppers In Dublin on a night out.

I've no problem with it or anything else that falls under the umbrella of sex work.

Others will have issues from a moral or religious point of view, will see it as seedy or perverted etc.

As long as it's safe, and no one is exploited, it should be up to the women and audience to decide if they participate or not.

I wouldn't wan't a family member or someone I'm close to putting up material online on the likes of OnlyFans. For me the risk is if they decide after a short spell that it wasn't for them, the images would still be circulated and could come back years or decades down the line.

But each to their own, there's worse things you could be doing so I certainly wouldn't demonise anyone who does it.

People are free to do whatever they want. If that's how women want to make money then all power to them.

However, I wouldn't want my daughter doing it. I wouldn't want my partner doing it. If I went on a date with someone and they were on onlyfans then I wouldn't be taking it any further. If I was with a partner and they started doing it I don't think there'd be a future for us.

Those pictures and videos, once out there, will never go away.

Do you dance in front of married men? Or only single guys?

If it were single guys or the married guys wives knew and were fine ..i would have no issue with it.

My young fella makes a fortune on it.
I've given up work myself to manage his social media, some awful weirdos out there but sure it keeps him in designer threads and pays the pcp on the cars ;)

People should mind their own business. Wouldn't bother me, if you can make money and then it's up to you.

Can't see why anyone would judge rather then the men paying for it. Not saying that they should be judged either but can never understand why it's those providing the service that have to endure the stigma.

Entirely down to personal choice, if that's how you want to make money. I'd be heartbroken if my daughter went down this route, and I can't pretend otherwise. One note of caution, If a few years down the line you'd rather photos or videos of yourself weren't there, it's virtually impossible to stop them and they're there for all to see in perpetuity. You'll be playing whack a mole (innuendo in there in this context?) with takedown requests on a hundred a one porn sites forever, and for every 10 people paying, there's probably hundreds who aren't.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Yes I agree with the rude content on onlyfans using toys and such that is out there forever but a lot of girls use it for underwear posts not nude just the type of photos every girl posts on Instagram lately. Most lads I talk to are okay with their girl doing it just not posting nudes and talking dirty to strange dudes every night sending him videos. I don’t think that’s fair on the boyfriend then again if he trusts the girl and accepts that it’s her job then it shouldn’t bother him because she’s still the same girl to him.

It's not really any of my business.

If i had a daughter...and it was safe ...and she only allowed single men to be her clients ....i would have no issue and be proud of her.

If she took money from married men who had wives who didn't know. I would feel a failure. Because i would feel i failed to teach her empathy.

If she was just doing porn..i would be much happier its safer ..and i don't have an issue with married men looking at porn videos.

But i would want her to be safe and happy and healthy. Not all parts of the industry are like that. Not people would be ok in that industry.

My grandmother worked as a prostitute ...but she was coming form homelessness....she didnt have the greatest opinion of some of the people she met ..both men and women.

But I agree the stigma needs to be taken away.

I think women fear that the whole industry undermines them. They feel afraid it encourages toxic masculinity and ignores consent. I mean in porn films you never see condoms or consent. Its all about men etc. I think women who work in the industry and those who dont need to come together to establish more power for women.

How would she know if they are married or not?

Exactly. She knows its likely many are.

And i am certain a lot of clients have even told her. And told her the wife doesn't know.

You wouldn’t know if the single guys were lying tbh some guys that are regulars are married but unhappy they tell you the ins and outs of all their problems. Normally strip clubs are full of people that are unhappy in their marriage that just want a place to escape. Stag night guys i reckon some are single

Yeah I understand. Thanks for being honest. I guess you need a high level of personal skills for the job.

But its not really escaping ...its just wasting time really.

I have to say...I take people as I find them to be. So that is what i think of women. I take them as i find them to be.

I hope you are happy anyway.

I really fail to understand how it is the fault of the performer if the person viewing or paying is married or single, so to say your ok with it as long as the girl is totally virtuous is a strange standard to have

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,211 ✭✭✭✭ILoveYourVibes

That's up to the men though and their wives nothing to do with the stripper.

Its her duty to live her life without hurting people or creating the potential for that.

    To earn money

It's up to the married men to sort that ethical dilemma.

Its impossible not to care. They do care ..she does ..unless of course you become

Women were not born to be numb or robots. They were born to be the fully feeling wonderful people they truly are. They should not have to shut down and stop feeling to make it in the world. BUT the world sucks...so sometimes they have to. So i guess ...we are all not perfect ...and that imperfection doesn't mean we can treat them with disrespect ....

So a woman has an affair ..or takes money from married men for sex work ....she is still human ...she is not a robot ..but she is trying to be numb.

Of course these women care ....they are human. Its natural and human to care about other humans. Its natural for women to care about other women.

All women are worthy and equal.

No way is my daughter doing that. If she’s broke, needs money, down on her luck then I’ll help her, but f*cked if she’s gonna be an object for other men to leer at just to pay the bills. If she actively chooses that as a career, I’d be even more disappointed. Maybe I’m just old fashioned.

Look the whole thing of questioning whether a man is married should really be on the person who is married and questioning his own morality, even then you don't know the in's and out's of that situation. Some people get married drift apart live in separate rooms rarely exchange a hug or a kiss or a hello for that matter. Live completely separate lives. And for the most part any man or woman going to strip clubs or even prostitutes for company. Is understandable. Its a horrifically lonely experience being trapped in a marriage and with some one you don't want to be with.

As for Only Fans. I don't have a problem with any one using it. Its a great platform to make money on , there light is on and burning brightly for the mass's. I think like other site the split is 70% creator 30% OnlyFans which is fair.

I think if Bubbles finds an ability to retain an income in the current climate then you do you.

I think that women who put naked images of themselves online for money are trash.

But you are asking the women in these professions to shut a part of themselves down ...so that they don't care.

I mean there is enough of that in the world already ....we all shut ourselves down in our jobs. But well ....its a bigger ask when you want a woman to shut herself down to empathizing with another woman in a marriage.

I mean you are already asking these women to shut down a lot of themselves even without that.

I am not saying you are wrong logically. But people do have guilt and they do care ...because they are human they care about others. Its natural.

Don’t know what only fans is but I’ll assume it’s a soft core subscription thing

Each to their own but the OP is right, the taboo and moral grandstanding in Ireland would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad. It compounds any negative experience women in the industry suffer even further.

Because its taboo, girls in the sex industry are seen as victims or unintelligent based on their choices. If society could move on from that view and conversations more open then perhaps for girls wanting to get in to that industry they would receive better guidance on some of the pitfalls such as the content being around forever etc

A friend of mine is a former pornstar in L.A. She pretty much went through and identity change as she went on to co-run a childcare centre. She has no regrets about her life in porn but has some awful stories too.

I had the “yeah but if it was my daughter” conversation with her. She said “if you’re daughter is of legal age and makes that choice in sound mind are you going to turn your back on her? And if you do what does that say about you?”

Are you claiming their empathy to the potential partner of their customers should supercede the empathy for the men themselves?

Regardless what you work at, you have to leave your personal beliefs at the door. We all have worked with people we don't like & work practises we may not agree with, but we have to abide by them to get a wage.

If Bubbles workplace was to implement a 20 questions style entrance policy, their customer base would drop to 0.

I can't believe there's a market for only fans given that there's so much free porn out there and it's so easily accessible.

I wouldn't date a girl doing it, I'd not be comfortable knowing what she does but if they can make money out of it then good luck to them and their marketing skills.

If you feel i am judgemental ..that's fine ....that is your judgement of me. Fair enough.

I am not saying I wish the scenario could exist where they could only have single clients didn't exist?

Is she happy though? Are we happy? no of course not ..for similar reasons to why some women doing this are not. We all shut ourselves down to what we need to do.

Is the answer to just shut off empathy for others all the time? Is the answer to feel less?

I am not hurting anyone though.
I’ve seen some high horsey judgemental crap on this website, but congratulations. You have just reset the bar for it.

No..i said if i had a daughter who was only servicing single men and was safe i would have no issue with it. That's very non judgemental.

But if i had a husband ...and he was going to an escort. I would feel very damaged and hurt by both of them. I would feel that woman was taking advantage and callously hurting me. I would feel she was cold to other humans. And i would be right. That is not to say my husband would bear the brunt of responsibility. I mean he would have gone to another prostitute if not one particular one etc. It was his choice. But its her choice too.

And if she doesn't have choice imo she is not consenting. And if the man doesn't TELL her ..he is married. She isn't consenting either. Because she hasn't consented to that situation.

To say that women in prostitution must have an 'off' switch...is hardly revolutionary is it?

I mean i couldn't do it. I would be too sensitive.

And yes lots of people are in similar positions with other jobs this is true.
She asked me / all of us for an honest opinion. I was not going to lie.

To say ..him ..i owe nothing to anyone ...its selfish. Its not my responsibility to be righteous.

If your partner had an affair with someone ..yes you would be angry with your partner ..but you would also be angry with the other person ...i think you are lying if you say otherwise.

I am not saying if a friend of mine decided to become a prostitute i would stop being her friend etc or treat her differently. But well i was asked.

I don't have an issue with prostitution ..actually my grandmother was one for a while. And she did service married men. And no she was not happy.

I DO have an issue with married men becoming clients. And yes i agree it takes two to tango.

I already stated all this. I think you might want to reread my posts.

You would imagine it to be the case that only slim beautiful women can be on the likes of OnlyFans, and even though I don't access that site, I know it's not the case as in reality every woman would have her base there.

I’ve never heard of anyone being trafficked or forced into having an onlyfans account. As far as I know, this isn’t a problem that exists in the world. If anyone was being forced into posting, obviously I would be against that. Where’s the confusion?

Do you have an account there?
