Does anyone know if you need planning permission to install 4 Velux mini dormer windows in at attic at the back of the roof ? The Velux.ie site says its possibly not needed, but seeing conflicting info everywhere on the net.

Pic attached of the windows ...

    THanks

Yes. These are a specific planning requirement as they open into a balcony.
I’ve seen them get caught before and the enforcement section wouldn’t settle for the bottom panel being fixed in places as it was deemed that they could just be opened back up at any stage.

Sorry I was talking about the cabrio versions alright.

I still think your options require planning as it’s a physical alteration to the roof space and in theory an increase in the floor area in that location do Commencement Notice required.

hey did you do these? I’d love to hear about them and see pics if you did. I’m

Debating replacing my velux roof lights with dormers, either normally built or I’d love a prefab design if easier/cheaper to install.

I’m looking to do 2 to the front of my house and one to the rear, so I’m assuming I’ll need planning at least for the front ones. I have no problem with that. Love to hear what happened with yours. Thanks

If going for a dormer-type model you would potentially need planning for all.

There is officially no exemption for roof lights, most councils let them slide. But I think going with a dormer light is pushing it. At least get it in writing.
