Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BOARDSIES DECIDE: Greatest Music Act Of All-Time!

Coming soon to a cinema near you-

128 music acts, 675 matches, 7 rounds, lots of nerds with too much time on their hands voting, lots of counting mistakes by me and only one winner!

Boardsies decide the greatest music act of all-time!

Are you excited? No, me neither, but I said I was going to do it and now I have to...unless I can get Kolido to do it for me? Kolido?

I have the random draw set down in front of me. Below will be the number of votes required to advance and win:

    1st round: 5 votes
    2nd round: 6 votes
    3rd round: 7 votes
    4th round: 8 votes
    Quarter Finals: 9 votes
    Semi-Finals: 11 votes
Final: No limit, votes via PM over a 24 hour period.

But before all of that, there's one place remaining in the main draw so I handpicked some big acts who weren't nominated.

Vote for one of the acts below and I'll count up the votes in let's say...24 hours.

    Buddy Holly
    Chuck Berry
    Little Richard
    Black Sabbath

The competition proper will get underway when I can be arsed after Necro's competition finishes, rest assured.

I'll throw a vote to Black Sabbath for that final spot, some cracking tunes and Ozzy Osbourne is a legend.

Chuck Berry. It's not that there'd be no rock'n'roll without him, but it would possibly have turned out very different. Plus Johnny B. Goode is still one of the greatest songs of all time.

Given the choice to listen one of those four, I would pick black sabath. Im sure the other three are worthy of a place in the comp also but sure what can ya do.

Yeah this would be my choice too for essentially the same reasons

This. Although I don't feel good about it given everything that happened in his personal life.

Black Sabbath go through to the first round.

I said there was one place remaining but there's two more so while we're at it we might as well go the whole hog. I took at look at the fifty top-selling music acts of all-time and included them as well as some other big ones who weren't picked. I just thought of this and wasn't really prepared so I'll give Chuck Berry another chance and include him here too.

Vote for TWO of the following acts:

    Velvet Underground
    Carole King
    Joni Mitchell
    Les Paul
    Charlie Parker
    Leadbelly
    Robert Johnson
    Billy Joel
    Soundgarden
    Mariah Carey
    Celine Dion
    Tchaikovsky
    Wagner
    James Taylor
    The Grateful Dead
    Chuck Berry
    The B-52s
    Barbara Streisand
    George Strait
    Whitney Houston
    Van Halen
    Kenny G
    Kenny Rogers
    Chopin
    Taylor Swift
    Alabama
    Rod Stewart
    Backstreet Boys
    Britney Spears
    Dave Matthews Band
    Tim McGraw
    Foreigner
    Journey
    Bob Seger
    Chicago
    Reba McEntire
    Santana
    Alan Jackson

I will leave the voting open until Saturday

I'll go for Whitney Houston and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Thanks for going for Tchaikovsky, that's him on two already!

I don't want to end up with all acts on one vote and look like an incompetent newbie-host buffoon!

So guys, please vote strategically if the situation calls for it! :D

I genuinely didn't even spot her in the list - first time in a bar after four months this evening, so got a bit of that double vision going on, and pretty drunk, although happy with how I've voted I think...

Drunk enough to admit, that this Mariah song is an absolute bop (as the kids would say)... As in, I like it, I've found something likeable about the person I've claimed to be the absolute worst... Dare I Say... CHOON!

I’m holding out on voting till I see what’s what.

Everyone is allowed to change their vote later anyway, when they see what's what.

I'm going to vote for B-52s & Carole King. To be fair, I won't be voting much in main tournament, just pre-lims. This probably isn't a good time to mention that I'm not really a numbers person so let me know if you see any mistakes.

    Current Standings:

    3 VOTES
    Billy Joel
    Tchaikovsky
    Taylor Swift

    2 VOTES
    Wagner
    Whitney Houston
    Dave Matthews Band
    Mariah Carey

    1 VOTE
    B-52s
    Carole King
    Backstreet Boys
    Foreigner
    Chuck Berry
    Barbara Streisand
    Kenny Rogers
    Celine Dion
    Britney Spears

I'd vote for The Velvet Underground and Carole King from that list, please.

I may have plumped for Tchaikovsky, Chopin or Wagner if I knew more about classical music but it's an area I must admit I'm a bit ignorant on.
