@bullit_dodger once confirmed that your NC6 is active on ESBN's side, ring SSE back and ask to speak to a supervisor straight away.. what you're man is telling you is just plain wrong, by law you are due the deemed CEG from Feb, regardless of supplier.

and don't waste any hope on the CRU.

Last I heard from SSE was that I'll get the deemed rate from February 22 until August when I moved. No estimate on when it would be.

With the messing around on deemed export payments for people on day/night meters should the cost effectiveness of a battery be looked at again perhaps?

Given nearly everyone on a d/n meter would be mad to move off it currently given tariff pricing therefore rejecting the smart meter, a battery seems the only logical way of using some of the additional power your producing and not exporting for free.

It seems also that people will be pushed on to smart meters in the coming years with limited cheaper rate windows on night rate, unless the regulator gets the finger out, meaning without a means of balancing out your usage over time you could be paying 40c plus per unit and getting 18c fit.

just wondering about peoples thoughts’ on it?

we are all eager to get paid FIT but it will happen. The delays have made me think about a small battery, but even with the fairly mean FIT rates, batteries just don't add up for me.

I am tempted to do a DIY battery but price of that route is going up too.

Would it be possible for you guys to put the below formula in plain English for me please, I have received the fit email from Energia, they have the nc6, but I’m not sure what I’m actually getting.

I have a registered 5.4kwp system with 5kwh of battery storage. Roughly how many kWh’s am I deemed to get and will this be the same amount per bill (given they don’t know my export because I’m on a day/night meter). Many thanks 👍🏻

MEC is your inverter max output, and provisional interval is the number of hours 8760hrs

    so for a 5kW inverter

    5.0kWp x 0.097 x 0.35 x 8760hrs = 1471

1471 x CEG export rate = deemed export payment

    Your a legend jkforde 🙌👍🏻

That will work out ok, the deemed fit is over twice that of my actual export.

I wonder how long there will be deemed export for?

I have a day night meter myself but thinking it surely can't be long before the energy companies can figure out how to get the smart meters to function like a day night meter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,070 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Well at the moment the amount the energy companies are paying for deemed export is pretty miniscule, so it's likely the CRU set the formula to make solar more attractive and encourage uptake

As more people get solar then it'll become a real cost and energy companies will start taking notice

The thing is, everyone will eventually get a smart meter and if you refuse then you lose your deemed export. So it's a problem that will solve itself anyway

I'm pretty sure there isn't anything technical stopping ESBN from implementing the D/N meter on a smart meter. They want to move everyone to plans with peak tariffs to discourage people from using as much electricity in the evening

    Gentlemen thanks for that.

I have a 6kw Inverter and sse have started on their site that they a are paying 14cent for deemed export.

But Jesus knows how this will work out.

I received the Bord Gais strong arm letter today. Sign up to our t&c's or receive nothing. It makes you wonder why the CRU guidelines are even in place if allowing suppliers do this.

"We’re happy to announce that we’re paying our eligible customers with smart meters 18.5 cent for every kWh they export back to the grid. You will be eligible to accept our terms and conditions and sign up for a payment as soon as you have a smart meter installed."

No point getting on to the CRU because they are useless. Will just wait and see what happens now because I have no intention getting my backwards meter replaced!

I wonder could you get the CCPC on their case, for misrepresenting the CRU rules in this regard

I'm just going to play the game as set out by the CRU, I won't refuse a smart meter because they won't work where I live due to 0 mobile signal even 2g. I just won't be actively looking to get one installed so they can find that out themselves.

If it comes down to having to fight for the deemed export they owe me in the region of €250 I'm up for that and will enjoy pissing some people off who won't do their job properly to get it.

I think the rates are actually exceptionally high right now

I think @the_amazing_raisin meant the amount of people getting paid FIT is miniscule not the rate levels

Exactly, with only a few thousand homes eligible it's not going to make much of an impact to the bottom line, even if the rate is generous

Tbh, I think this is probably the golden age for buying solar panels in Ireland. Reasonable(ish) grants, deemed export that doesn't account for batteries, decent FIT rates, cheap night rates

A lot of those are going to go away as more people take up solar, so it'll never be quite as good

I'd say the only problem right now is energy providers not actually paying anyone what is owed, which is admittedly a big enough problem

Golden age was 2020, 360w panels could be picked up at 100+ vat, now it's more like 170ish +vat for a 405w

a few of us also had "free" electricity from Just Power (or whatever they were called), used 20MW that "unlimited" year with them

@the_amazing_raisin - "I think this is probably the golden age for buying solar panels in Ireland"

That was a few years ago. Around 2019-2020 was the golden age. Even as late as early last year was ok but transport cost from China were already shooting up and panels were considerably more expensive. I upgraded my install, added 12 panels on my newly built shed and upgraded my inverter 17 months ago (all DIY and got hardware for very good prices) and it is only a couple months away from having paid for itself already.

At the moment I am heating my house fully, directly from the sun. Incredible stuff. Must plug the car in as I am already exporting to the grid too

The good old days when the grant was €3800 and the market was was more reasonable.

Friends though I was a idiot for getting them and now they are making enquiries. The horse has bolted lads.

Getting solar now is like jumping into shark infested waters. Bitten by chancers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,070 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

True, perhaps I should say it's the golden age for owning solar, and probably the bronze age for buying

Well put!! I't still very worthwhile (as electricity prices are rising with little sign of slowing). Just means it’s a little harder to get the install at a reasonable price. But the underlying reasons are still valid and worth doing (free power, energy independence, environmental benefit, whatever floats your boat)
