Looks like a UK imported car.

The location on the map on the sat nave is very near when I used to live in Dublin.

It's not an import. You can tell from the reg & the km on the odometer has km.
I have a Leon estate, not the fr model. They're nice cars so I'd imagine the fr is nicer again. Mines 152 & close to that mileage & haven't had any issues with mine.

Surely the KMs would be larger then the MPH if it was an Irish car?

It is an import, not a genuine reg on the plate. Large mileage on it and signs of wear (tear) on drivers site. There is no way seller can validate his 'motorway miles' claim. Have you viewed it? How is condition otherwise?

Definitely an import if that matters to you OP. But so are half the cars in the country since brexit and the fall in price of STG.

My bad, didn't look at the numbers, I thought UK only had mph not both.
& The reg being 2016 as in the year didn't click either.

    I haven't viewed it yet.
Was looking to see if ye thought it would be worth the journey.
I get the motorway miles claim is sh!te but sure most claims in those ads are.
I like the car ( in the pictures) and I want/need an estate.
But I'm green in relation to knowing anything about reliability and all that

    Ok... Maybe something weird.
    Got the reg..

Is that definitely the car? Listed as hatchback too.

My a6 is a black edition on my reg cert but its not really black edition, its S Line alright and I got it tinted and dechromed but not a real black edition.
    So things do be wrong.

So the dealer has got back to me.
He says all fr's are 184hp and the Ros system isn't up to date.
    Does this sound legit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,903 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

I think it's pretty easy for the info to be wrong. My motorbike used to say CYCLE on ros for the make and the log book had the power at 9999999999kW

No, there's 150s too. Unless it's been registered wrong. I'd definitely aim to find a 184.

Is there any other way of knowing?
If love an fr but only if it's the 184.
Is it a case of going up for a look?

Get the old UK reg and do a UK history check on it.

The emissions figure is probably different between 150 and 184.

A glance at the rear suspension would tell you for sure either way as they have different setups

He did mention rear discs being bigger alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    It’s obviously a 150, in case there’s doubt!

Doesn’t even have auto lights, uk spec FR is weird compared to Irish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

He did mention rear discs being bigger alright.

He sounds like a bit of a spoofer.

You can tell a 150 from a 184 by the angle/positioning of the rear brake caliper though.

I've been getting that feeling alright unfortunately.
It's a shame. I really like the car.

In picture 10 you can see the rear caliper, it’s at a sorta 10 o clock position.

If that were a 184, and had independent rear suspension - the caliper would be at a 9 o clock position.

It’s still a nice car though, and good enough value. Mileage is on the high side but it’s got some bide extras like the pan roof and tech pack.

    That's it.
I'm going to be spending quite a bit of time in it.
So having some comfort would be nice. However the lie on the ad (and it could be a mistake, but I doubt it is) makes me think twice.
I might see if he will drop the price maybe...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Honestly I’d sooner look at the one Bazz linked.

The red with the roof makes the other one stand out though.

I'm determined to get an automatic.
    Which I know limits me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

V12 Classics in the UK buy and sell a rake of Leon FR ex fleet cars. Most are 150 but they usually have 184s in and out. (they don’t have any 184 in stock of course..)
Go 2016 or late 2015 to get Euro6 and reduced nox. Will cost you an extra €1300 on nox on a Euro5

Check autotrader, the filters are great, you can go by trim level and all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭Polo_Cluvie

Id get the chassis number and verify with the main dealer before id trust the salesman. Im taken with those cars also. They look well and will not give too much trouble bar the usual dpf dmf etc. Id do a cartell report on it also for peace of mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭shannonman81

    Just did a cartell check.
It was brought into the country by a "company" at the start of March. And then recently changed ownership to "private"
That's really the only red flag.
Well that and the fact that it isn't 184hp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭Polo_Cluvie

The money is ok on it but at the same time when the dealer cant tell the difference between a 150 and a 184 id be cautious to be honest. Its not as advertised and the mileage is a little on the high side id be inclined to walk. Youll get the car you want maybe pay an extra grand but with lower mileage. The mechtronics on those gear boxes do give trouble and are a costly repair. If your going to buy pay the extra 2/300 for an extended warranty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

There's value on FRs in the UK. The 184 wasn't available with DSG in Ireland but it was in the UK. If you want one it's the route I'd go tbh. You'll need a manufacturing date after week 22 2015 for the lower nox. A car with the 6.5 inch screen instead of the 5.8 inch should be a Euro 6.

    I'm currently driving a 09 Passat cc
    Which has about 140hp
    I'm wondering do I need 184.
I know it's an estate so it's a bigger/heavier car and the power would be nice.
I'm just thinking out loud here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The 150 Leon would have performance almost identical to a Passat CC 170 TDI.

The MQB cars are relatively light so your Passat is a good bit heavier.

You wouldn’t regret getting the 184 but you might end up getting an older higher mileage example for more money than a clean 150.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭shannonman81

So the dealer has sent me this...
Any chance it's a different car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,364 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Do a history check on the reg and compare the VIN.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 305 ✭✭shannonman81

    Seems to match up...

Could just be registered wrong to reduce VRT.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

It can't be Irish and 184hp auto. We never got that option here. Only manual 184hp ones.

Seller saying all FRs are 184hp already would put me off as he did not do even basic research. It can be 150hp version after all.

184hp version has better suspension setup in the back too, so its not only more power.

I had 184hp manual estate loaner for a few days, when my baby cupra was in the garage and I actually really liked it. Almost bought it, but dmi just dont like diesel engines and their dynamics. Dsg 184hp Leon would be something I would definitely test drive.

    UK reg is FC16VBO

    CO2 is 120g/km

It’s already got 2 owners on the book in Ireland. 05/06/2020, transferred to an individual.

I really like the car, but seeing as I have this many doubts before I've even seen the car see making me want to walk away..
So back to the drawing board...
Estate...auto... Bit of performance... And I want to trade in mine (I don't have time to sell privately)

My ideal would be a Octavia vrs but there are so few out there in my budget. 13000 including mine which is about 3000-4000 trade in.
    Any ideas would be appreciated!

I think you should drive a 150 and see what you think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,364 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

You could always get a 150bhp version remapped which would bring it up to around 190bhp if needed.

It's not that it's needed Bazz, but it would be nice! 😊
I'm going to be doing a lot of motorway miles so to have the power sitting there would be handy.
It does seem like a nice place to sit.
That said I've seen some nice albeit older 5 series that would be nice to be sat in too...

This interest you? Its a 2017 model so has the Euro 6 engine. Probably talking a shade over 16k landed including VRT and Nox.

    https://www.usedcarsni.com/2017-Seat-Leon-FR-TECHNOLOGY-TDI-S-260422540?keywords=fr&make=27&model=1221&fuel_type=2&trans_type=0&age_from=0&age_to=0&price_from=0&user_type=0&body_style=9&location%5B%5D=0&location%5B%5D=0&homepage_search_attr=1&tab_id=0&search_type=1

    16.5k for a 2017 with 65k miles v a 2013 with 126k miles for 13k?
