If we get a bit of chat going on this later on I'd be interested to hear if any of the songs were new to people and if you discovered any new bands/songs that you will listen to in future

I promise not to get offended if you hated any of the tracks, even if it's the Pearl Jam one ;)

Hey, I'm really sorry I don't know how I didn't add your entry to the list!

I even replied to your pm but managed to not update my spreadsheet.

You know have the honour of possibly casting the deciding vote as you will be the last to be revealed as my spreadsheet is all set up so I've added you to the end.

    Thanks for letting me know.

I've checked my PMs now and I don't believe I missed anyone else

Most of the songs were new to me. One specific song I really liked. Had heard of the act but Im not familiar with them, I hope to check them out some more.

I'd hope to have time for a late entry but I won't manage it now. I'll follow along later though

    Silverchair for the win!

Glad you rediscovered it :) look forward to finding out what it is during the reveal!

I've heard about half of these before but I couple of nice discoveries (and rediscoveries) too.

The interesting thing about this one is that I don't think there's an obvious or really predictable winner.

Tried to avoid any classics so it wouldn't be too predictable

So I'm a little bit ahead of time which is highly unusual but just said I'd start of with a few songs that just missed the cut for this.

Corey Taylor - Have you Ever Seen the Rain

Absolutely love this song but as he's the lead singer in Stone Sour I thought it might be a bit too similar to Imperfect. I also couldn't find it on Spotify but I left JJ72 in so I could have left this in I guess

Netwon Faulkner - Dream Catch Me

A one hit wonder that gets a lot of air time on my Spotify playlist. Think it's particularly catchy

The Offspring - Want You Bad

Like a lot of The Offspring's hits but this one is particularly catchy

So for the results of the host nation.

The Kilkenny vote is as follows

    In 10th place it's Blue October - Fear - 1 point

In 9th place it's Bad Company - If You Needed Somebody - 2 points

    In 8th place it's Tonic - You Wanted More - 3 points

    In 7th place it's JJ72 - October Swimmer - 4 points

    In 6th place it's Blink 182 - Feeling This - 5 points

    In 5th place it's Stone Sour - Imperfect - 6 points

In 4th place it's Avril Lavigne - Head Above Water - 7 points

    In 3rd place it's Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye - 8 points

    In 2nd place it's Incubus - Megalomaniac - 10 points

    In 1st place it's Pearl Jam - Porch - 12 points

Anyone who has followed the 90s band thread Kolido ran will know my love of Pearl Jam so I don't think this is any shock. I tried to pick a song that some at least would be unfamiliar with a I think Porch is just a brilliant track

Incubus have some unreal songs and I have only gotten back into the lately but Megalomaniac would be my favourite track despite others being more famous.

Silversun Pickups I only discovered very recently and must say they are excellent. Very similar in sound to Smashing Pumpkins on some songs and this is a particularly good track.

Now for the first entrant proper and it's Sl1ppy who was lightning fast getting their votes in

    In 10th place it's Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye - 1 point

    In 9th place it's Semisonic - Closing Time - 2 points

In 8th place it's Scott Stapp - The Great Divide - 3 points

    In 7th place it's Stone Sour - Imperfect - 4 points

    In 6th place it's JJ72 - October Swimmer - 5 points

    In 5th place it's Incubus - Megalomaniac - 6 points

    In 4th place it's Guster - Happier - 7 points

In 3rd place it's Police - The King of Pain - 8 points

    In 2nd place it's Pearl Jam - Porch - 10 points

    In 1st place it's Staind - So Far Away - 12 points

Top spot goes to Staind - I found it very hard to give this track no points as I absolutely love it and I think one of the hardest parts of this was actually ranking a list of my favourite songs!

    Is it wrong?

12 points for top then 10, 8 and so on?

Porch got top from me and second from S1ippy so that's 22

My Top 10 didn't change too much after the first listen. Avril Lavigne and Staind were always the top 2 spots. Was familiar with nearly all the bands already, and a good few of the songs.

I enjoyed all 20 songs. Porch was probably the one I liked least overall. I like the handful of Pearl Jam stuff I do know, but didn't think Porch was in the same ballpark.

Look at the two scoreboards you posted - they're identical. You jumped the gun a bit on the first one and were already including my scores. ;)

    I wasn't questioning the maths

    Two very different songs 1 & 2!

Porch is definitely not one of their better known songs but I personally really like it. Didn't make their greatest hits album even.

Pearl Jam move into a slight lead but it's early days

No love yet for Metallica, Silverchar (sorry EN) or Seven Mary Three (the least famous band in the mix I'd say)

Two maximums for Lisa Loeb in a row. Not my usual genre of song but something about this song is really catchy and clearly others feel the same (or it was the least annoying option ;))

    Silverchair - Tomorrow 6
Metallica - Hero of the Day 5
Scott Stapp - The Great Divide 4
Tonic - You Wanted More 3
Seven Mary Three - Wait 0

JJ72 amazingly high up considering their limited success in the early 2000s

Lisa Loeb shooting up the rankings too after her two maximums

Love that Lisa Loeb song, it was my no. 1 before I even listened to the others.

My main love is 80s rock, I moved onto dance music in the 90 so skipped the whole grunge scene. Was never a fan of Pearl Jam but do like a few of their songs.

Im a big Metallica fan but thats not one of their better songs for me, though I scored it high enough.

Interesting is a polite word for it. My friends think I have an appalling taste. Yep Staind are definitely one for the teenage angst years alright ;)

I don't know why I like it so much I must admit but as mentioned in my Walrus I have a soft spot for one hit wonders!

My era is 90s/00s rock and was never into the dance scene.

I was going to put up The Unforgiven or One from Metallica but I really like the intro to Hero of the Day so that got the nod

Great to see Silversun Pickups racking up some serious points; Lazy Eye was the discovery of the comp for me. I had heard one of their other songs before and had been meaning to check them out properly.

Either of those Metallica songs would have scored 2nd place for me.

Great to see Silversun Pickups racking up some serious points; Lazy Eye was the discovery of the comp for me. I had heard one of their other songs before and had been meaning to check them out properly.

I think it came up for me as a YouTube recommendation and that's how I discovered them. I had never heard of them before a few months ago

I discovered Guster, Blue October, Tonic & Seven Mary Three through Spotify radio based on my main playlist which I regularly listen to too

Lazy Eye was one of my nominations for best song of the Noughties. Can't remember what it went up against but I don't think anybody else voted for it. :(

    Next up it's sKeith

In 10th place it's Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine - 1 point

In 9th place it's Scott Stapp - The Great Divide - 2 points

    In 8th place it's Stone Sour - Imperfect - 3 points

    In 7th place it's Pearl Jam - Porch - 4 points

In 6th place it's Police - The King of Pain - 5 points

    In 5th place it's Staind - So Far Away - 6 points

In 4th place it's Metallica - Hero of the Day - 7 points

In 3rd place it's Avril Lavigne - Head Above Water - 8 points

In 2nd place it's Bad Company - If You Needed Somebody - 10 points

    In 1st place it's Lisa Loeb - Stay - 12 points

Another maximum for Lisa - she really is a love her or hate her type of gal as she's had more maximums than anyone else but also had five zeros

I struggle hugely on those competitions to listen to songs I don't know and have my vote still count as they run so fast. Definitely would have gotten a vote from me against almost anything

I know it's a cheesy song and sort of power ballady but I really like it - they have some more famous tracks too which I didn't know either
