Yeah it was dangerous last year. I couldn't believe they agreed to that circuit.

Lightning hold has delayed qualifying to where it's only going to start at 11pm. If that's too late for you to watch live, SSF1 will repeat tomorrow before the race:

Weather delays in this Nashville race and nascar is also rain delayed. Looks like Nascar will get going first in Michigan.

Music city. More like car crash city. This is ridiculous

This track breeds the cautions. While it's not great racing, it's certainly entertaining!

Ah man that’s unlucky grosjean was running well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,512 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Scott McLaughlin was very lucky, a yellow when he was about 500 from his pitstop. He fought his way back up to second but the late yellows gave him very little chance to get past Dixon.

"Crashville" is definitely the most polarising track on the calendar. Too much of track is a disaster in the tight sections, the weather there also a major problem this weekend but location is awesome and it was an entertaining race last night in all the wrong ways. I think Indycar will try to persist with it beyond 2023

    ROUND 15 — BOMMARITO AUTOMOTIVE GROUP 500

Saturday night oval racing time! You might want to ensure you have enough coffee or booze to hand. 260 laps around the 1.25-mile short oval, which actually makes 523km so they rounded it down a fair bit.

Schedule update (since I'm out of edit time):

Qualifying has been moved up to the original Practice 2 slot, at 9:15pm.

Final practice will now take place at 12am; starting with a 30-minute dedicated session for certain cars to run in the high groove: https://www.indycar.com/news/2022/08/08-16-special-session. At 12:45am, a final one-hour all-car practice session will take place.

All sessions still available in full on INDYCAR Live, and broadcast on Sky Sports F1.

I'm hoping McLaughlin or Palou win this one just to make it competely mental.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,512 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Congrats to Will Power who just tied the great Mario Andretti for most Indycar poles.

After him it was Ericsson, Newgarden, McLaughlin, Palou and Dixon. All set up for a great championship race.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

That was a great qualifying session. Looking forward to Ericsson and McLaughlin putting it to Power in tonight's race.

For some reason I think McLaughlin is going to win it tonight. My head, educated guess, says Newgarden but for some reason I can't get away from McLaughlin.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Looking at this first stint, will it be tyres or fuel that dictates the stops?

ROUND 16 — GRAND PRIX OF PORTLAND

I've never seen a championship like this.

    Currently the standings are

    • Will Power, 482.
    • Josef Newgarden, 479.
    • Scott Dixon, 468.
    • Marcus Ericsson. 465
    • Alex Palou, 434
    • Scott McLaughlin 428
    • Pato O'Ward, 424

    I'd pick Newgarden personally.

That's not ideal. Practice 1 stopped for a jumbo screen's hydraulics breaking and tilting over the track.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

    Jumbo screen fail!

So Colton hammered that Armco 😬 qualifying on right now.

All going Penske's way. McLoughlin pole, Newgarden second, Power third. Dixon starting way back in 16th and Ericsson 18th.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

Where can I watch this race? Don't mind paying.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,512 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Sky sports F1 normally have it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

McLaughlin brilliant again today with that win, mathematically he has an unlikely outside shot at the title next week at Laguna Seca along with Ericsson.

Realistically it's a 3 way battle between Power, Newgarden and Dixon. A 3rd place finish will secure the title for Will but the title far from a certainty for Will knowing Newgarden or Dixon will have a high percentage chance of winning the race at Laguna

    Will Power 523

    Josef Newgarden 503 (-20)

    Scott Dixon 503 (-20)

    Marcus Ericsson 484 (-39)

    Scott McLaughlin 482 (-41)

Following the cancellation and contraction of a lot of the F1 coverage this weekend, FP2 is moved back to SSF1.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Q1 Newgarden crashes OUT starts last. Dixon OUT of Q1 starts 13th

Surely Power can't screw this up now

Will Power on pole, 68th career pole and all-time Indycar record, bonus point gained on his +20 lead, championship contenders sagged 13th or starting last in 26th

It would be an all time disaster if he doesn't secure his 2nd Indycar championship tomorrow night he deserves it please follow through with it

Calum Illott starting 2nd, so talented
