€6,000 budget for a head-turner

I have around €6,000 to spend and want something that looks good, economy isn't that important as I don't do much mileage, less than 8,000kms per year.

What I've Had Already:
Mk1 Audi TT Quattro - nice, but a project car really.
BMW E92 Coupe in red - real head turner, not that reliable though. Wouldn't have another.

What I've Considered
Mk5 Golf GTI - would still consider a good one with a DSG 'box.
VW Scirocco - still pricey enough, especially for a DSG, but would still consider.
Focus ST - apart from the mental tax, the Mk2 didn't come with auto box options.
Mondeo Titanium X Sport - lots of crap out there and NOx charges make them expensive to import.
Audi S3 (8P) - gave serious consideration to these but outside the budget by a good bit.
Audi A3 - a well spec'd S line with a DSG box is still a contender.

What have a missed? Any ideas? Reliability is important... But so are looks!

Leon FR DSG? You'd get a good one for that budget but they're rare. Interiors a bit meh but otherwise they're a nice car.

Head Turner? 6 series bm? Mercedes w221 lwb, 6 series bm fair bit behind it. You want head turners on that budget. They are the only ones that fit the criteria imo...

I did look at 630i coupes yeah. A possibility maybe. Tax is a pain though.

If you’re looking for a head turner I’d be looking at 6 series, Mercedes CLS, 350Z. Audi TT etc.

You could also go for something like a Porsche Cayenne (not a fan of them but they look more than a €5k car).

Gti’s etc while fun to drive I wouldn’t class them as a head turner

CLS is a good shout too actually! but you are then up to the E1809 bracket, 630 is a nice car too...

they are up another level from some of the cars you suggested. I think the A5 coupes were nice enough, if you want something more modest, engine size etc, but a nice looking car...

I'm bias but the BMW 130i or 135i. I owned a 130i and loved it. It often got attention from those that actually knew what it was, plus it had a great sound on ignition in a car park. Naturally aspirated and could pull like a train until the double digits.

Tax will crucify you though.

Yes I have one myself but it's diesel 2.0l.
I just threw that up as an example to the op,I wouldn't actually go near that car as it's suspiciouly under priced and is the lowest spec RCZ (which is still pretty high spec!) There's a few good examples on donedeal but they're nearer twice the price.

A few suggestions:

I'd be tempted to go back to the Audi TT mk1, get a 225 and get classic insurance and put the rest of the money into upgrades.

Alternatively, if you would be happy with the Mondeo, how about a Mazda 6 MPS for €3500?



Similarly, how about a Subaru Legacy GT for €5700?



I know you said no E92s, but what about a Z4 for €4250?



You also mentioned a Golf, what about an R32 for €5950?



Finally, if you could stretch your budget (probably a fair bit), what about an S2000 for €7100 (excl VRT etc)?

Couple for sale in Norn Iron but a bit overpriced. Shouldn't pay more than €3K. To be fair the road tax is €2K per annum thanks to the spiteful, joyless Green Party mob who don't want anyone to have anything with an engine bigger than a hairdryer. Pity really because a lot of high spec cars are prematurely dumped. They are happy to forget about sustainability etc if only they can crack down on anyone having fun.

Don't think anything badged Ford. Audi (except very top end) or Opel with turn heads
