Can you put render over external insulation?

Hi, we recently bought a house that has pebble dashed external insulation and I absolutely hate the look of it. It would be a huge job and cost for us to remove and replace all of the external insulation and I was wondering does anyone know if it is possible to render over the dashed insulation?
