    Hi

I bought this spec about a year and a half ago for cyrpto mining - gave up after about a month- Anyway - I am resurrecting it again for teenage son who is into gaming. I think I need to upgrade the CPU. I will order new RAM ( 8gb) and a new SSD (500Gb). Having different opinions on what CPU to add to the motherboard in replacement to the Celeron.

Any advise welcome. I am happy to spend a few quid on it , given the spec so far , including the expensive Vega64

    Thanks

Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 GAMING OC 8GB HBM2

Bit problematic as the best CPU for that board is the i7-6700k or i7-7700k but these will cost at least €200 for the slowest option, the i7-6700 non-K.

    Example here

You could buy a superior CPU + motherboard combination (Ryzen 3600 + A320M) for not much more brand new. And re-use your old ram though Ryzen prefers faster ram than 2400Mhz.

Up to you really. Personally I would just go the extra mile and get the Ryzen 3600, compatiable A320M + 16GB 3200Mhz for €330 or whatever, sell your Z270E and old 8GB for €120 or whatever it gets.

The i7-6700 is still a good gaming processor though so the hassle free option of just dropping that in for €200 will work fine.
