    Completely anecdotal but when I've been to Vegas twice and I didn't meet any Europeans there to gamble indoors all day. Granted, I wasn't sitting indoors either so I wouldn't meet such people! But anyone we talked to on the plane over or in restaurants and bars was going to walk around the hotels, eat, see shows, go to the dam. A very surprising number of families on board too in April and August. I'm guessing as the starting point of a road trip around Nevada and California. In August the place was like the devil's oven. Never again. I brought a book to the pool and the glue binding it together melted (at 10am) sending my pages flying. The car read 48. The chap across us on the flight home got heatstroke on day 1. The flight that time was mostly families with teenage kids.

    The only way I see them going year round is by appealing to families and promoting the heck out of a west coast roadtrip or a national parks roadtrip. Ads in the UK and around Europe because Vegas and San Fran were walking European families in summer of 2019.

    That said, I expect many a person to rock up in winter with a bag full of their summer finest and no coat then proceed to freeze over there.

    I was over there last January for CES and it was below zero at night, not much much better during the day. There was a lot of cold looking people in the evening but it did make walking the strip a lot easier once you were wrapped up.

    That sounds about right, but given how expensive it's got there I am not sure any time is a good time to go anymore, but that's a conversation for another thread.

    Indeed. The last time I was there I was charged a $15 convenience fee for taking money out of an ATM.

    2.2m people live in the LAS area, I'm sure a European trip in the summer would be appealing to them - you have to look at the bigger picture, not just if Irish based folk would travel in summer or not. How many Irish people have Cleveland or Hartford high up on the list of vacation destinations? 😉

    It looks like the pilots' pay issue will rumble on for a while yet. This is quite a telling extract from Chairman Kevin Foley's report:

    “It is a matter of concern to the court that the extensive engagement between the parties in relation to the matters...has not resulted in any discernible indication of understanding...that the resolution of the trade dispute will require the exercise of pragmatism, realism and common sense in order to identify a position that has the potential to be accepted by both.”

    Just booked las vegas with tour America 800 person flights and hotel for November the girl I dealt with says they are getting alot enquiries about vagas since aerlingus announced the flight

    Aer Lingus UK roughly had a 68% load in March, up one point on the same month last year.

    March 2023 was the last month of A321LR ops at Manchester for Aer Lingus UK so it looks like they comfortably absorbed that additional capacity the A330 added on JFK over the past year.

    LRC reported back. Looks like everyone but the pilots union is recommending around the 10-12% increase. Anywho… let's see what happens... Just FYI (routes and fleet discussion can continue).

    EI106 op by EI-FNH was cancelled last night but is due to operate tonight. Maybe the cancellation was because of that.

    The 2nd planned 321XLR EI-XLB is scheduled for painting next week but will now be re-assigned within IAG and will not be delivered to EI.

    Went to Vegas for the 5th time for New Years 2007-2008, having only been there in May to September in the past. They closed off the strip and had a coordinated music/fireworks display amongst the various casinos. We turned in our summers' finest. Ended up buying a complete new wardrobe and jacket, and the evenings got very cold!! Haven't been back since as kids got in the way, but hoping to get back early next year for sure

    Do you have a link? I thought EI XLV wasnt due until December so this seems premature.

    Irishtimes say December and it would give them sometime to hopefully resolve the dispute.

    It appears increasingly likely that the report earlier suggesting Iberia would get all their XLR’s before Aer Lingus even gets their first is accurate. That would push first deliveries well into next summer at the earliest.

    The longer the pilot dispute goes on without a solution that satisfies IAG, the more uncertain the entire XLR project becomes for Aer Lingus in my opinion.

    Do IAG really expect the pilots to be shamed into saying, ah sure forget about the long overdue pay rise, we want to see new XLR’s in EI colours as soon as possible instead?

    If EI received its first deliveries as planned, they’d be fairly limited on what they could do with them with the passenger cap. That cap is almost definitely still going to be in place in summer of 2025.

    If IAG needed Iberia to get theirs first, you would think relocating the deliveries due to the cap at Dublin would be more convincing than relocating them due to the pilot dispute, it would also put a bit of pressure on the cap to be removed, as evidence the investment has been moved elsewhere over Dublin and outside Ireland. Like the below poster, I can’t understand what makes IAG think that EI pilots would be or are concerned about the lack of XLRs.

    I doubt they care, honestly.

    If EI pilots want to sabotage the expansion of their airline (and by extension their long term careers) that's their prerogative.

    Apologies, not sure I fully understand you here…..are you saying that a group of employees, who are engaged in negotiations for a pay increase (and pay restoration in some instances) with their employer, which reflects circumstances over the past 4 years, are sabotaging the company?

    Look, both parties need to come to an agreement at some stage to resolve this but IAG withholding new aircraft and blaming this on the pilots is a silly tactic in my opinion - sabotage is a bit of a stretch though, especially, (as a previous poster pointed out), it probably suits IAG to delay the XLR’s with the passenger cap issue in DUB and speculation about IB being better positioned, from a commercial perspective, to receive them now.

    Maybe I'm being a bit harsh with my words. Let me try to rephrase in a less confrontational way :)

    IAG has said that the delivery of new aircraft to Aer Lingus is contingent on a pay agreement, and they have now put their money where their mouth is by sending planes that were earmarked for Aer Lingus to Iberia.

    I get the argument that the cap at Dublin Airport exists and that the planes might have gone elsewhere anyway. That's certainly possible. However, EI don't exclusively operate out of Dublin.

    Furthermore, the number of daily passengers on an XLR going long haul is small fry compared to a short haul aircraft. The recent culling of Gatwick by EI could reasonably be assumed to free up some extra numbers for example.

    Looking at it dispassionately, EI have a large and well funded competitor right beside them with a very low cost base. They want to stay as competitive as possible, and jacking up salaries is not a good way to do that.

    The pilots have every right to reject the Labour Court recommendation, but if they choose to do that they shouldn't be overly surprised when the parent company chooses to deploy resources everywhere.
