Absolutely. Rory’s average of +6 in third rounds of Majors this year. Let’s hope he doesn’t do it again!

Is Boards (on mobile) directing everyone to the 1st post of followed threads, every single time.....or is it just me?

anyone clued in on what happens if i need to change a flight date?

story is im off to london on 27th to 29 august with the family, and i just checked teh booking i made back at the start of june and discovered I booked it for the weekend BEFORE we're to be there. its with lastminute.com with ryanair being the airline.

ive got back on to lastminute.com but all they are allowing me to do is to pick preferred dates (not flight times) and put in a request for the change.

Problem is when they will come back to me ive no idea what the fee could be to change 5 flights (i heard a mention of anything between €50 and €100 each. the flights were €25 each!)

so im left with the following options:

    1. wait it out, see what they come back with, pay the change of date fees
    2. cancel the flights. probably take a hit on cancellations as well. book new flights for similar price (for 4 people seeing as one of not going now)

anyone gone through anything similar lately?

I think it's 100 per person per flight/leg so possibly 1000 quid all told. Absolutely not worth doing.

If you cancel, unless you're insured (unlikely on a 25 euro flight) all you can do is claim back the taxes.

If you wait it out, your flight might get cancelled due to ongoing industrial action and this is probably your best chance of getting your money back (in the form of a voucher). If there are still cheap flights available for the correct dates, grab them and write off a probably loss of 25 quid a head.

A naked man arrives at a costume party with a girl on his back.

“I am a turtle” he says

“Who’s on your back?” someone asks him

    “That’s Michelle.”

I think we’re in for an interesting few years. Which is worse, freezing to death or starving to death? The west will freeze but the Russians will starve? I think freezing is worse. I heard a lad on the radio today who was on the front lines and he is convinced the Ukraine will win.

Everything I have seen recently is stating that a Russian win is inevitable and the Winter is going pose a huge test to the West’s resolve. The energy crisis is worsening, Poland and the whole of Europe are reopening their coal mines. Inflation is double digits, Russia’s isn’t much worse, we are in for a long hard protracted war and Putin is lining up potential successors from the KGB who are even more hard line and much younger.

It will be a long time before the Russian people rise up. It could be twenty years or more. This is certainly a second Cold War and with China’s prosperity and need for oil and gas, income will be satisfied? Is this the end of the West or how can we other than donating to the Ukraine ensure a victory for the West?

Does anyone use a VPN router to log into a home or office network? I need to give someone access to a computer to use one piece of software. I don't want to use TeamViewer etc. Can anyone recommend a hardware VPN router that's easy enough to set up and use?

For personal access to my home network I've previously used open vpn on OpenWRT routers I had in my house. I then connect to it with any openvpn compatible client and always found it reliable. At some pojnt I'm planning on running Wire Guard in a docker container to act as the vpn server but haven't actually done it so no idea how good/easy it is to use

That looks very, very interesting, thanks. I'll look in more detail later, but you reckon if I create a network like this we'd be able to use Remote Desktop Connection to jump onto the other computer? Perfect solution if can.

Well nearly perfect, the perfect solution would be free 😆

It is free. That should work, but I've not tried it.

I moved to London back in October for my sins and my landlord has just asked for 17% increase in rent. Absolute madness. Fully legal apparently.

Apparently after previous **** ups, they made an agreement with the vendor that they'd agree yo stick with them if they foot the bill for free booze while the system's down.

Question for WiFi techies here: So the current living situation I have is kinda a flat extension at the side of a home and the WiFi signal off a fibre connection down my side via a WiFi extender is between 25-40Mbps. It's adequate but a bit slow for streaming etc. Now the crowd here are using Eir (bad start for me obv) but I was wondering how reasonable the two below options are:

    1) Go with Vodafone Fibre 500Mbps for a 12 month contract - Is it possible to have two different fibre connections into the same building?

    2) 50m Ethernet cable - This might be the only real possibility but would likely need to go through their attic. Would this impact their WiFi on the main router?

I've tried a few different extenders to not much improvement and I think the walls might be the issue with the signal. I tried the circuit connection method too but there's separate power circuits in either side of the building.

If you’re looking to extend Wi-Fi into a big building I have forked out for Google nest Wi-Fi in my parents house which is a big house with thick walls. You’ll be paying a lot of money for it but it works in extending the signal throughout a big building. Easy to set up.

Is the WiFi extender close enough to the router? You can't put them near the limit of the range of the router you're trying to extend.

I'd go with the ethernet cable and a switch. Just do it cleanly, hiding the cables and it shouldn't be an issue. It won't affect their WiFi signal. Unless you're really taking the piss streaming 4k constantly thee shouldn't be any noticeable change in bandwidth.

Cheers folks. The wifi extender is about as close to the router as possible to still be reachable down my side (prob 10 metres max but with a couple of walls in between).

Tbh the speed you're getting is very good for that distance IMO. When I was using one I had to put it within 5 metres of the router with only a ceiling between them and the extender only worked for another 5 metres before it started getting flaky and slow.

I didn't spend much money on the extender however. I did spend a bit of time figuring out where best to drill and run the ethernet cables to minimise visibility. In some rooms I removed the electric sockets and was able to run cable through the walls to emerge at another socket, in other places I ran it through the garage. I used two switches so I could connect multiple PCs and a network printer but I don't know if you'll need any if the router has spare ports and you only need one device connected. If, in your part of the building you want to have both ethernet and WiFi, if your extender has 2 ethernet ports I think you can connect your 50m cable to that, connect your PC to it as well and have WiFi without any distance/wall problems.
