Boardsies Decide :: The WORST Song of all time!

We've had every other kind of contest about the greatest songs of the 80's, 90's, 00's and all time.

Now its time for everyone to nominate the songs that they really really hate. The songs they despise. The songs that they think are just pure MUCK.

The kind of songs that when they come on the radio, you dont just change the channel. You pull your car over, rip the radio out of the dash, smash it into a million pieces on the side of the road and then set it on fire. That's the kind of submissions we want to win this competition!

Enter your submissions to me by private message. I'll allow up to 10 songs per user, but if you only have 1, then thats fine too. I'll be entering about 6 or 7 of my own

Also, if you want to include a specific youtube link with your selection to use, then please do. Also if you want to include some reasoning for why you've chosen your song, then thats fine too. I will include the reasoning in the contest post. After all, it may be helpful to know why you despise a song

Same. Mine are definitely quite subjective, in that a good few appeared in the "Best of..." decade threads. I went with songs I personally can't stand, as opposed to what I guess might be universally regarded as "bad".

But ultimately I know I'm correct and the many people who like those terrible songs are wrong!

OP, can you make it very clear when running the competition, that people are voting for the worst song in each matchup, and not which they think what is the best of the two worst song nominees.

I want to be sure that those that progress onward round by round have no argument that 'actually, people like this song, that's why they voted for it'.

The songs which progress here should be ridiculed mercilessly so there can be no ambiguity as an excuse for them.

Because it makes it more interesting to see the OP reveal the contenders round by round rather than the competition being defacto ran during the process of submitting the goddam songs as people lose their sh#t over some song being nominated and freaking out.
So just submit your songs and stop being a little *itch about it.

There is a Worst Songs 'post on thread' chat in After Hours, if that is your preference.

Rules are set by game hosts, who graciously offer their time and energy to set up and run a game.

Stick around and see what fun the reveals are, given the pm format - or check out previous tournament reveals in Other Forum Games - they are great!

oh and forgetting about certain songs and being reminded (at reveal) is part of the fun :pac:

I'm 100% sure that 8 of my 10 nominations will be in the 1/4 finals.
They are that bad.

There's one terrible song on my list that can't be beaten, I don't know what the singer was thinking (ok, yes I do, but it just should not have been shared with the public in general) :eek:

There is 2 songs of my 10 that are considered massively popular, but I absolutely despise them and I'm hoping some others around here will feel the same, even so I just feel that I'm not entirely alone in my hatred.

The other 8 songs I chose are definitely bad bad, even if they are still well known.

I imagine there are some songs others submit that I genuinely like. I certainly don't mind a bit of stinky cheese every now and then...

I'll have to have a think about this. Hard to think of songs that I despise as I'm not going to voluntarily play them.

I can think of one or two songs off the top of my head where I like the original version but someone did a cover version and absolutely murdered it. Those will have to go in.

My issue is that there are some artists that I absolutely despise. Two in particular I can think of are so far beyond bland that they're offensive. Nothing they have ever released has any musical credibility as far as I'm concerned. So do I pick just one of their songs as representative of their body of work, or do I ignore them and go for truly bad songs as opposed to offensively bland?

I think offensively bland is as bad as a bad song really.

interesting point.
I didn't go for anything like that in my nominations. If I find someone's music bland, that's it - if anything I wouldn't pay attention to them, but I wouldn't necessarily change the radio station if the rest of the playlist was good.
I tried to follow the. . . ehem. . . guidelines about ripping off the radio etc.

One of my choices is actually from an artist that I really like, but just think that particular song is really crap.
One other song is from a band that I grew to like later on in their career but at that point in time I just couldn't get them.
And there is one song that I could picture myself doing all these things that Rikand described in the OP :P

It's going to be an interesting competition. Like, if your song gets knocked out early then you can't display your rage and vitriol for that song over several rounds. Yet, if it stays in, it's probably going to induce rage seeing it come up in every round.

Tis is a bit of a conundrum.

16 people have submitted to me so far and there are 110 individual songs so far.

Plenty of room for more dross and believe me, there's an awful pile of dross in there! I've been listening and I cant last more than a minute for a lot of them

Some have tried to submit up to 20.... I'll take the extra ones and put them in the reserve list if i need more to easily fill the matchplay draw, but I'll stick with your first 10 submitted unless you change them around

I presume I'm not the only getting wrecked by Boards.ie and long waits for things to load

126 Unique songs in so far. Will keep this open until midnight coming, so another 23 hours. Then I'll spend the weekend getting things set up and look to start it Monday mid-late morning

It's not just you, but it seems to be browser dependent. Was getting nowhere with Chrome, so tried Microsoft Edge and it works perfectly on that. Can't believe I'm actually recommending Edge to people, but boards ran smoothly for me all day with it.

What worked for me this morning is to clear all site related history on the browser and boom, back and purring like a kitten

I forgot of course that this is the Bank Holiday weekend and despite covid my wife is pushing through with her usual bank holiday weekend plans for me, which means I'll be busy!

I'm in work on Tuesday morning, so we'll look to kick this off on Tuesday afternoon from around 3pm onwards.

I have 148 songs, which means we'll have a short preliminary round first
