Prefer Dunnes but it's to expensive to shop every week.
Not crazy about Tesco very little I want in my local one.
    Super value is expensive.

My local lidl is ****e for food. But the one near my mother's is brilliant.

Basically I'm a peasent and mostly shop in aldi in saying that find there selection of all foods better then lidl. But Dunnes would be my preferred choice if I had the cash every week.

I find Lidl far better than Aldi, it has a bakery and superior choice. The 4 Aldi stores I've been are all below average supermarkets, nothing great about Aldi.

Used to shop 50/50 across Aldi Lidl when living in Dublin but now Im in the sticks I only have Aldi locally and Lidl is 15km away, I miss it badly as I only get into it once every 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe its a case of absence making the heart grow fonder but Im a bit bored with Aldi now and look forward to trips to Lidl as I know I'll come home with something unique. The last trip it was lobster and crab soup, venison steaks and a rib roast at half price. Wouldnt get any of that in Aldi, mine doesnt even discount the meat, they seem to send it back or out to food banks.

Would take Aldi and Lidl over Dunnes and Supervalue any day, both of them are a rip and in Supervalue you have to put up with Betty and Angela chatting at the tills about the local gossip. Pack your bags and let the rest of us get on with our day.

    Aldi for everything except:

    Soy sauce
    Curry pastes
    Rice noodles
    San Marzano tomatoes

First they came for the socialists...

I noticed they were playing back round music in Lidl the other day, when did that start?

It's more, in to pick up a few essentials and I'm drawn to the tool section like a fly to shyte.
Oh that looks like a handy thing to have for a job I'm doing or I might do sometime, it's only a couple of euro.
    Over years that builds up.

I really hope that doesn't become a thing.

Builder mate of mine was telling me the middle aisles in Aldi/Lidi have saved him a fortune over the years. Their own brand tools are half the price of branded ones in B&Q/Woodies and they come with a 3 year warranty. Plus unlike other shops Aldi'/Lidl dont be giving you the Spanish Inquisition if you bring a broken product back, they just give you your money back without hassle.

I prefer the food selection at Aldi to Lidl, but it's hugely store dependent. My local Aldi is run and staffed by people who, with one or two exceptions, don't give a damn, whereas the branch in the next small town is a delight to shop in. Same goes for Lidl and Tesco, very dependent on the management, and the culture they instil in their staff.

    Interesting point.

    All are fairly closeby

Aldi - decent range and the meat & veg are far better than Lidl

Lidl - bakery & the luxury range are good. I hate their self service checkout, they are very particular I'm terms of scanning. Never have the same issue elsewhere

Tesco - has everything but not crazy about their meat

Dunnes - very expensive compared to the others. Regularly see management having a go at the staff publically which I hate

M& S - rarely due to costs but nice for the odd treat

Usually switch between Aldi & Tesco every second shop

I think the fruit and veg in Lidl is better quality than Aldi which seems to go off very fast.

I do find Aldi is overrated with people online.

Aldi is far superior. Better quality product and far more lenient on the pocket. I have no interest in bakeries and Lidl is a mishmash of Aldi and Tesco. Only time I venture into Lidl is for their venison (when I can't get my paws on freshly hunted stuff).

I picked up ratchet straps one time, I don't own a trailer. The hell do I need them for? Don't talk to me.

    It depends on the store.

The Lidl in Lucan never has the stuff I want. So end up going to Fonthill and where it's Aldi first and then Lidl for top ups for stuff Aldi don't have or the things that are nicer in Lidl.

Tesco , Dunnes, Supervalu would be for some branded products or special offers or if I'm passing.

The nearest convenience store to me always has a queue (hint: hire more staff rather than burning them out) so it's actually inconvenient and it didn't open later so I usually just go to the discounters.

Middle aisle stuff in Lidi is better than Aldi.

The price difference on DIY stuff between Aldi/Lidl and Woodies/B&Q is outrageous.

My local Lidl and Aldi are beside each other so you can get some stuff in one and more in the other.
I noticed now due to covid 19 that just about everything in the bakery section is already bagged and sealed with a sticker. Especially the likes of bread rolls.
