Switching from Private Sector to Public Sector _ Accountancy

Hi All, I am on a panel for Accountant in Civil service. PAS are requesting documents now and references. I gather this means there may be a job coming up. But what is the time scale from this stage to offer to start date? When would they need to contact references etc? Would you know more about the position and start date before they contact them? . I've been with my current employer for so many years that previous experience is irrelevant and with covid and the delicate situation in private sector I'm apprehensive about handing in notice. It's daunting enough moving from private in same place for years to Public. Completely different even though it was one of the reasons I applied was for a change. Thanks everyone.

You're best bet is, to phone PAS.
Ask them their timeline on collecting references etc. It will give you time to have a chat with your boss before they call him.
