Strange neighbours

    Hi,

A strange incident happened today. Someone rang my apartment bell and when I opened the door there was this lady standing outside who started complaining about my cooking?! She said all the smoke and "smell" of my cooking went into her apartment and that I should open the windows of my apartment open at all times. If not, then she will call the guards.

Now, I ALWAYS keep my living room windows open while cooking. I understand that my cooking is different from hers but does this give her the authority to knock my door and threaten me like this? What should I do?

    Thank you.

Unless your cooking meth or something along those lines just ignore it.

If she is good looking ask her in for dinner.

If she is an old bat, tell her to go ahead and call the guards.

A two word response is all that is needed.

Starts with F and ends with off.

Maybe it's those veggie farts that are the problem

999 what service do you require
    Garda
    What is your emergency
    My neighbour is cooking
Oh you need the fire brigade
    No there is no fire
    Well why are you calling
Because my neighbour is cooking and there is a smell and smoke
Oh smoke, so there might be a fire then
    No
    Well what’s the problem then
    I don’t like it
    You don’t like his cooking
No I don’t like the smell
    Have you tried his cooking
    No
    Well it might be nice
    I doubt it
Well we cant do anything here I’m afraid
Please call by and tell him to stop
    That’s not going to happen
Why not, it is a social disturbance
Put a peg on your nose you silly old bat

    OP
Are you the owner? 1. Contact the management company. 2. Consider the kitchen job extract route - does it go via the neighbors apartment? 3. If 2. Can be established and is the case, suggest to the Neighbour that they should contact the management company. 4. or if they feel strongly enough suggest they contact a tradesman to open up ducting routes to investigate, this could be considered ‘essential works in the context of fire / ventilations regs

If you’re a tenant, replace 1,2,3,4 for tell landlord

I had reached out to the management company and they didn't seem to care. All they said was if you are intimidated by her, please reach out to the cops

I didn't think about Kitchen cooker thing issue but that seems unlikely. Her apartment is 2 apartments after ours

Take this as a sign from the cosmos that the vegetarianism isn't working out.

She's not even in the next apartment to you? How does she figure it's coming from you then?

Maybe it's those veggie farts that are the problem

So it’s what’s coming out the other end not what’s is going in the top end that is the problem? In that case close the bathroom window.

Next time she knocks on the door and complains just say you are cooking food to hide the smell of granny farts coming in from 2 apartments down!..

In all seriousness, my neighbours do cook some mad stuff, smell wise. But it's food. They're entitled to cook whatever they want. If they were having BBQs every day or burning rubbish I'd see more of a point.

By the way, did she stand 2 metres back?

What was your response to her when she said that to you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 191 ✭✭ash1511

What was your response to her when she said that to you?

Well, all I said was that it's not possible that the smoke is going from our apartment to hers bypassing two apartments on the way and that she is free to call the guards or the army if she wishes. Basically, no one has the authority to tell me what I can or cannot cook

    Face Off?

Decent movie alright. Bit of a gamble though.. Nicholas Cage is a bit like marmite for people.

    She mightn't go for it.

    I cant stand him.

Blunt as bejaysus is the only way to deal with fools like this. If she knocked once on my door, she'd not knock a second time, I can tell you.

Useful contribution here, inciting violence, against a woman?
    Nice
Have you considered your response in the case of the roles being reversed?

That is exactly what I meant. I said it above - She would get an awful earful so she'd not knock a second time.

I am a woman as well, so not sure what you are getting at - roles reversal and inciting violence?

And your query what my response would be if the roles were reversed, assume you must mean if a man knocked about sh!Te either, he'd also get told to f off and not to knock again with that crap in no uncertain terms. Doubt he'd knock again either.
