Following on from this week’s Old School WWF wrestler tournament, I’ve decided to up the ante and go bigger this time around with favorite Tag Team ever. This time I’ll be welcoming nominations (via PM only) and I’ll also be adding in some of the all time greats myself and... maybe some duds for the craic.

So have a think about it and check back later on tonight because that’s when we’ll kick off the action.

How many teams are we permitted to nominate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Up to and including 5 nominations are permitted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Gonna be kicking this off at around 9pm folks :)

Ok so we're about to get started. I have chosen 64 teams from nominations and my own database. I had this planned with the idea of old school wrestling in mind so any teams that formed after the year 2000 aren't gonna be in this one. Might do that at a later date though if this goes well. Here are the rules.

    * One vote per round.
    * First to five advances.
    * If there aren't enough votes after 45 mins, leading entry wins.
    * If it's a tie, I'll cast deciding vote.
    * Reasons for your choice are needed to be valid.
    * All draws are random.

First match is coming up in the next couple of minutes, have fun!

Well this is an interesting draw to say the least!
Owen Hart and the British Bulldog

Owen Hart & The Bulldog, was there a better British wrestler in the WWF/E than Davey Boy?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,800 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

British Bulldogs here in this Owen Hart off.

Davey Boy by far the better partner.

Owen and Davey. I think they complimented each other really well. And I just preferred Bulldog to Jarrett

Not familiar enough with either I'm afraid

That's alright, there's loads of 80's and early 90's to come. Stay with it!

Always preferred Owen and Jarrett. As I said in the singles match ups, I was never the biggest fan of Bulldog and I possibly underrate him a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Sirsok

Neither, either Owen and Yoko or Owen and Koko B Ware! Might accept Owen and Neidhart but the rest never!!!!

Ok Owen and Davey Boy Smith

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

4-1 to Owen against Owen. Although I suspect a few Owen goals were scored.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,467 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

Owen and Jeff because I always loved Jeffs attitude

    Owen and Jeff

First wrestle mania I remember watching live was 15 and they were on that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

4-3 now, is the comeback on for Canadian Country?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

A good opening tussle but blood is thicker than water on this occasion. Absolute mesh of styles next up.
    Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie

    Midnight Express.

Foley/Jack/Dude Love etc far better known for his singles career than a dalliance with Funk wearing tights on his head.

Should be up there amongst the favorites imo (Express that is, not Chainsaw Jack)

Charlie and Jack were a bit of fun.

But for serious tag-team wrestling - it has to be The Midnight Express. Thank you, f*ck you, bye.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,697 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Midnight express easily as a tag team. Terry funk is a singles wrestling legend but this is a tag team thing. I prefer the condrey and eaton version of the midnights but Stan lane was good too.

    Ooooooo, controversial...

Midnight Express for sure. Funk and Mick were somewhat thrown together whereas Midnight are bona-fide "Mount Rushmore" tag wrestlers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,834 ✭✭✭OOnegative

Midnight Express, nobody could beat Jim Cournette’s trash talk!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

    5-0... a quick turnaround!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,697 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

    Ooooooo, controversial...

Is it ? Condrey and eaton are the best known version of the team of the three versions I've seen. There were the original midnight express of condrey and Rhodes, then eaton joined condrey, and Stan lane joined when condrey went AWOL.

    An unpredictable bout this...

RVD & Sabu for superior athletic ability alone.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 53,800 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Van Dam and Sabu.

I prefer them over the lumbering Natural Disasters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,697 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

The disasters are they were a tag team and not two guys thrown together.

Never saw RVD and Sabu as a proper tag-team so Natural Disasters by default.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,467 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

Natural disasters, wasn’t typhoon tug boat Thomas or something for a few fights? Proper pair of athletes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,399 ✭✭✭sonic85

The Natural Disasters were a proper tag team but I much prefer RVDs style so I'm gonna vote for him and Sabu

Yeah think so, which one was plucked out of the crowd to sit on Dino Bravo while he did push ups?
Actually he should have been in the singles thread.

Natural disasters for pure spectacle alone. One of the stand out teams and characters of the 90's when there was many great tag teams.

But taking it back to Midnight express... it's the New Midnight Express all the way...Holly and Gunn!

Yes I'm going to complain about every tag team unnecessarily from now on..... FYI RVD & Sabu < RVD & Kane

Natural Disasters for me, they were a great tag team and again not just thrown together.

    Bah, well The Rockers obviously.

Though Natural Born Thrillers were decent too, if formed at a bad time in WCW.

I quite liked Palumbo and O'Haire, but has to be The Rockers. Just the more memorable tag-team for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,467 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

    Rockers loved them, great energy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,834 ✭✭✭OOnegative

Rockers, HBK and Marty = Loads of fun!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,993 ✭✭✭Dr Turk Turkelton

The Rockers for me, used love them from their old Nwa days.
The excitement and energy from them was unreal.

The Rockers, the beginning for HBK and of course that horrific barbershop window incident :p
