That's some joke to cancel a gig 24 hours before it suppose to take place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,372 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

Wouldn't be too uncommon for gigs to be cancelled on the day itself. It's far from ideal for fans especially anyone who has booked accommodation and transport and might not be able to get money back at this stage but unfortunately it is what it is.

Band and crew have covid. Not much can be done

Then why hasnt their Glastonbury set the next day been cancelled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,782 ✭✭✭Fanirish

I’m sure it will be in the next few hours or quite possibly only one (without covid) will dj on their own.

they cannot run their live show if multiple crew members have covid

Sure one of them did a whole tour on his own recently while the other lad went back to college.

If Glastonbury doesn't get cancelled they weren't sick, as simple as that.

If it was poor ticket sales they knew well in advance of 6pm today and they could've saved everyone a lot of money and hassle and cancelled it earlier.

Bad form anyway and I'll be getting a refund this time

Fortunately I got to see Elvis Costello in Oxford last week. Also had a ticket for Swansea on Monday but got an email late on Saturday evening saying it was postponed due to illness. Did not say what but it was clearly Covid. Alas with the current ramp up of the virus we are probably going to see a lot more postponements and cancellations. Only needs one member of the band to get it. Then it could quickly spread to another

Fortunately I had already changed my plans for Monday, and this now allows me to get a refund. Won't cover 10% of what I lost when I could not get to the Stones and Kiss when I picked up Covid a couple of weeks ago

Shows with covid you can't look forward to a show til you see act on stage with your own eyes

Not trying to be negative or anything

Yeah, I miss the pre covid days when no gigs were cancelled ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,309 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Yep but shows still went on in the past with similar illnesses occurring like band members having a bad flu but still powering through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,477 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

Yeah, you've said that, even gave an example, then mentioned he had to cancel the next night which completely destroyed your attempt at a gotcha.

As said above, it's a DJ set at Glastonbury, so one of them can do that one their own if they're negative.

Cork gig was a full live production, which has been rehearsed and planned with both members and requires a large crew.

And as I said above on the last tour Tom did it solo as Ed went back to college. And Tom had on his Twitter yesterday he was practicing for Glasto so I take it it's Ed that's sick. Tom has done the show solo many times very recently so it can be done.

it was Ed chemical who posted yesterday about practising djing.

Tom or Ed has never done the live show solo, Adam smith (who creates the visuals) joined Tom for a tour.

Plus there is multiple cases in the crew as well apart from Tom chemical.

given the live show is a very technical audio/visual/lighting set up you can’t run such a show with numerous crew members out with covid.

Wet Leg are no longer on the bill with Inhaler in Fairview Park.

I don't know the reason. Logistics getting from Glastonbury, maybe?

This is probably a stupid question that has been asked many times in here I'm sure. But have a few concerts coming up in the next few weeks that were originally scheduled for 2020, the tickets I have are for the original dates in 2020, I presume this will be fine? Or are ticketmaster reissuing new tickets for events?

Not surprised, and I gotta say, some of the comments on their social medias (and to a lesser extent here) were very cringy/embarrassing from an Irish perspective. Even if they had played tonight, it was never a "surprise" to Chemical Bros that they were due to play Glastonbury.

Not to mention to think there was a conspiracy going on amidst a crew of what is probably 20 to 30 people to run the show, where they all must pretend people have Covid to cancel a full live show over a DJ set.

At least people were given 24 hours notice for the Chemical Brothers gig. I travelled to Birmingham earlier this month to see a Run The Jewels gig but they cancelled 4 hours before the show was supposed to start. The excuse that was given was that one of the duo had laryngitis yet they both managed to play the Primavera Sound Festival 4 days later and plastered videos all over social media.

Bad cold maybe, but bad flu?

    No way.

A bad dose of flu can - and often does - kill people.

Last time I had something like that i was flat on my back for four days.

if i found i had a winning ticket for the lottery, i wouldn’t have climbed out of bed to cash it.

Killer just found out about this despite them cancelling on thursday. They played glasto last night so possibly. Maybe not arsed! and knew they'd have a mad one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,792 ✭✭✭Dreamweapon

Was wondering this myself. Logistics can't be it 'cos Inhaler were also playing Glastonbury on Friday.

I suspect they weren't arsed for a support slot knowing they have a sold out Academy show here in November. Plus, is there a possibility they will be announced for the Picnic? MCD involved with that, Inhaler gig and WL's Academy gig.

    I'm a Rock n Roll Amputation

Wet leg wanted to switch places with inhaler in fairview as they are more popular. Mcd said no, so wet leg just bailed on it inside.

same thing with Sam fender and the killers. Too big to be supporting now

I highly doubt that. There'd be a significant penalty for just not turning up because you believe you deserve a better billing, after you signed a contract. You'd also likely be blackballed or at the least significantly reduce any future negotiating power.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 16,184 Mod ✭✭✭✭Furious-Red

Exactly no support can demand they go as headliner, also as big as Sam fender is he wouldn't out sell the killers.

However I did find it funny seeing people wanting refunds because a support act dropped out of a gig

It’s the truth. No penalty as they same promoter is doing all future shows with them in ireland and will make a ton of money off them as they have blown up internationally.

no reduction in negotiating power. Acts that sell tickets have power to do what they want. If they don’t want to play support on a line up cause they have blown up in the intervening year or so since being booked they can with relative ease.
