The Murchan pull down with 3/4 around him was laughable it was so bad...that said Dublin were so poor upfront and that's why they lost

I'm nothing if not consistent. The standard of referring in our sport is shocking though, in both codes.

I'd be more concerned about losing Kilkenny. Costello offers very little.

The trip on Howard that they scored from was egregious

We lack a forward or two but we're we not poor today by any stretch of the imagination. Some really good performances out out there today, especially in midfield.

I'd argue Costello offered a lot more in attack today than Kilkenny, he just didn't have the accuracy today

Decision making was very poor up front. Struggled with our own kickouts. Cant take 2 pointers. Some unbelievable sloppy loss of possession. And that’s just what comes to mind.

We could have scored 2 goals today. Kickouts have been an issue since Cluxton was parachuted back into the team. The sloppy lose in possession was a mixture of a very greasy ball and pitch and tenacious tackling.

That's that seriously disappointing year nothing won no progression in that team things need to change.

If Dessie is still there come the league it's gonna be incredibly hard to be positive at all going into new season. Team needs fresh start decent enough base there if we don't lose to many. Only name that stands out is Ger really.

Gannon will look back with disappointment in how many times he made a mistake.

Scully his usual switching off and not committing to a pass. Just hitting it and assuming it’ll get there. The one he kicked back to cluxton was a strange one. Why was he even trying to pass it to Howard in the first place.

Players are afraid to miss it seems and not committed to shooting. We never look like going for 2 unlike Tyrone.

We need a free taker and players who can kick the ball from 45 yards out

Dessie should go as it’s been a struggle this year for a lot of games

Not that disappointed as kind of expected the result ,unfortunately all the problems we have had all season have not been addressed .We were so poor in attack constantly taking the wrong options and lads who can kick for their club but won't take a shot with Dublin .Tyrone also had a much better bench than us not surprising of course .Very poor year for the management who didn't prepare at all for the new rules ,think we need to change that .

I'm a big fan of Bugler but was this his worst game for us? that cockup before half time when we could have gone 1 up for the break but ended up behind was demoralising

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭MFPM

There's a real irony in Dublin this year that the precision bred by Jim Gavin of only taking high percentage shots has been made broadly redundant by some of the rule changes brought in by Gavin particularly the 2 pointers...I haven't seen the stats but I'd imagine Dublin are at the bottom half of the quarter finalists in that regard and Kerry are similar but they score goals, Dublin don't.

Nothing to be ashamed of there. Another day we win, great effort, lack of quality at time and poor decision making from the players and the ref at times.

We were never winning it this year anyways, the two pointers are massive

Dessie informed the CB this was his last year at the start of the season apparently. Confirmed it publicly today

Do you think Gavin when bringing in the rules knew full well it wouldn't suit the style Dublin had created? They're probably the rules he dreamed of having back in 2013/14 when he played the game the way every country should be playing.

As for the crowd today, very sad to see the complete lack of interest in Dublin inter county GAA. I think it's fantastic for the sport when yourselves and Kerry aren't winning but that was the quietist I've heard the hill today at a big match and I've been to a lot over the year's.

LOI has taken over in the capital. I'll be up for the semi in the hurling as a neutral but will be hoping Dublin win. Get out and support the hurlers. 50k+ will be up From cork it'll be a cracking atmosphere.

Has to be Ger Brennan as the next manager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,277 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

If it's not Ger Brennan then who? Realistically who else is there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,842 ✭✭✭corny

The older players need to be pushed out. The younger players are completely inhibited by the names they share the pitch with. We have 4 or 5 lads who dominate possession while the rest just run around trying to help. That dynamic needs to be addressed and only a stronger manager can do that.

I don't think they should be pushed out but it's clear Dessie was overly reliant on a few older heads. Cluxton is the perfect example of this

    Agreed

While I haven't been his biggest fan, Jessie came in with a bit of a thankless task after our most successful manager ever. He's done just about okay over his tenure.

I wish him all the best in whatever he does next because regardless of what you might think of the last couple of seasons he owes Dublin football nothing amd gave many years of his life to the cause.

Yeah Dessie had an awful job really. Take over from Jim Gavin with half of the greatest team in history retiring or close to retirement.

But it’s clear we made no improvement or have no real progress at all this year so glad he’s gone really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,510 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Why? He'd win at least one more AI with Dublin.

Ger Brennan the best other option but that'd be terrible for Louth. Maybe with the way the year ended and realistically Louth won't win more then a Leinster he might go out on a high.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,277 ✭✭✭✭How Soon Is Now

I respect him as a Dublin legend he's won two all Irelands as a manager now but I think the bad taste in most people's mouth is the manner in which Dublin have played for a good while now. There's been very little positivity in that team. This season especially I think most of us have been crying for a fresh start.

Anyway best of luck in future Dessie he took the team as far as he could.
