Sold out most places and only of use if you have the virus and want to keep it in, rather than protecting you from it.

Face masks in Brennan’s pharmacy glenageary. Also hygiene kits. Think it’s limited to 2 per person. Can’t remember the face mask price but kits are €5.99. Might be helpful to anyone travelling.

Soap and water is as effective as hand gels...

Not sure if I read it on the main thread but Dettol isnt sure if their products can kill Covid 19, the bottle says it can kill the Human Coronavirus but thats the name of the common cold.
I bought some Milton and Parazone, I wonder will they work? Anything with bleach I imagine?

It's £35.99 now, so almost €42 not including postage of another £8 or PM cost.

I'd a wander around Amazon too to see what's there out of interest and prices are insane.

Carex Sensitive Skin Quick Dry Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel 50ml x3 £49.99
CAREX BUBBLE GUM Refreshing HAND GEL Antibacterial 50ml x6 £69.95
    Carex Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel 50ml x3 (Strawberry Laces) £34.99

What the actual f ?! World gone mad

    Except it won't do anything.

Alcohol-based sanitizer gel or soap and warm water is what you want.

You need a filter mask, surgical masks are practically useless against COVID.

This is true, its actually to the builder providers you should be going for masks. Masks come in varying levels of filtration. The Centre for Disease Control say only FFP2 and higher are useful against transmission of this virus.

In the olden days (mid-century) the hospitals used vinegar (or vinegar soapy mix with hot water) to wash floors etc.

Not sure if it'll kill the WuFlu, but may slow it down. It can be bought for less than the price of cheap bottle water.
Can also be lashed on fish n' chips.

You'd have to ask a white lab coat wan about the exact performance, it has a nice bit of a slight sting to the skin, so may be doing something.

Soap and water is better than any of the gels as long as hands are washed properly.. Most en tests are carried out on 5 mil of product ( thats a lot of product) The important thing to look for when looking for a gel or disinfectant is en14476 for COVID-19

Outside of the body virus are easily killed with disinfectant. I'm not sold on masks tbh as they can be a breathing ground for viruses. Common sense and good personal hygiene will go a long way

This is true but sanitiser is more convenient when mobile obviously where you may not be able to wash your hands.

My assumption this'll dilute the IPA/Vodka mix below an effective volume of 70%?

    IPA is 70% abv
    Vodka 40% abv (mostly)

alochol hand-sanitiser is normally at least 60% or so abv apparently.

I don't know the efficacy of these recipes.

True 70% is the minimum to hit the specified en numbers in the time limits set for Healthcare facilities also the fact that there is no en testing makes it a bit of a risk....

Mycosynthesized silver nanoparticle coated hats may be better for anti-viral activity. Looks very similar to Al, colour wise anyway.

What about the power of steam for cleaning surfaces as no chemical needed and is always to hand and make sure it gets hot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭jmorrisey

What about Calgon? I heard it helps washing machines live longer, will it do the same for their human cousins in their darkest hour. Renounce your false Gods biological bipeds, for now begins the epoch of Calgon.......

Won't work.. The steam will kill at the point of impact with what's called thermal disinfecting but steam gets cold at about 10 inches from the tip of the nozzle

All you will be doing then is blowing the virus / bacteria to another surface
